Volume 6 + Chapter 106: The City Out of Control

“It’s all your fault! It’s all your fault! You’re the reason I ended up like this!!”

The voice of the Calamity Beast Lao Huo had changed completely. It no longer sounded human at all, but like bubbles gurgling up from a rotting swamp.

“And how is that my fault?” Xia Yi shot back. “You were the one committing crimes. Now that everything blew up in your face, you blame me?”

    “Shut up!!”

The Calamity Beast Lao Huo slammed his fists repeatedly into the ground.

“I’ll bite through your throat, rip apart your skin, devour your flesh and blood!!”

    “You can’t do that.”

    “Die!”

The Calamity Beast Lao Huo lunged toward Xia Yi.

His body had already undergone a complete transformation, becoming vastly stronger than before. He was no longer the weak cripple bound to a wheelchair.

Raising his claws high, he aimed to pierce straight through Xia Yi’s skull.

Yet the moment his attack was about to strike her,

Golden light suddenly enveloped the Silver Dragon loli’s body and blasted him away.

    “T-this… what is this light?!”

The Calamity Beast Lao Huo’s body twisted violently. Instinctive revulsion surged through him, as though some filthy sewer creature had been exposed to blazing sunlight.

    “Holy Sword, Gram!”

A crest of the Holy Sword appeared upon the back of Xia Yi’s hand as the divine blade materialized into her grasp.

    She swung forward.

Golden radiance surged like a tidal wave, crashing into the Calamity Beasts ahead and blasting them away before annihilating them midair.

“You actually possess power like this?!”

Sensing overwhelming danger, the Calamity Beast Lao Huo leapt up to the ceiling in advance, narrowly escaping the sweeping golden light.

Simply looking at the Holy Sword made his eyes feel as though they were burning out of their sockets.

“Well, Lao Huo?” Xia Yi looked up at him calmly. “What happened to all that arrogant talk from earlier? I can’t hear any of it now.”

    “Don’t underestimate me!”

The Calamity Beast Lao Huo began moving.

He darted wildly through the courtroom hall with inhuman speed, from the ceiling to the pillars, from the pillars to the walls, from the walls to the floor, circling Xia Yi over and over, faster and faster until the naked eye could barely follow him.

Every time Xia Yi turned toward a sound, all she caught was an afterimage.

    Boom!

Suddenly, the floor beside Xia Yi shattered apart from one of Lao Huo’s attacks.

But the instant her gaze shifted there, another attack came from behind.

“Can you even keep up with my speed?!” the Calamity Beast Lao Huo laughed maniacally. “To me, you’re nothing but prey riddled with openings!”

The Holy Sword in Xia Yi’s hand indeed posed tremendous danger to him. Its power naturally countered his very existence.

But if it could not hit him, then it meant nothing.

    “Gale Sword!”

Xia Yi swung the Holy Sword. Sword energy surged forth with violent currents of air as she slashed toward Lao Huo purely by instinct.

“That kind of attack will never hit me!!”

Sensing the flow of air, the Calamity Beast Lao Huo successfully dodged the strike.

Deep in his heart, he had always yearned for healthy legs, for the ability to move freely rather than remain trapped in a wheelchair.

And after mutating, that wish had finally been granted.

He now possessed a body capable of moving freely, along with speed far beyond what ordinary people could ever hope to match.

    “Let me finish you off!!”

During his high-speed movements, he finally found what he believed was Xia Yi’s opening and launched a deadly assault.

    “From this side?”

Xia Yi raised the Holy Sword once more.

“I already told you, this is meaningless! I can dodge every attack you throw at me!”

The Calamity Beast Lao Huo thrust both arms forward, intending to rip Xia Yi apart from the middle.

Xia Yi responded exactly as before, using a sword technique directly toward him.

Every movement was within Lao Huo’s expectations. With the smallest possible motion, he slipped past the incoming sword energy.

But just as he thought victory was within reach…

Four additional attacks descended almost simultaneously, sealing off every route of escape around him.

    How… was that possible?!

The Calamity Beast Lao Huo’s eyes widened in disbelief.

He managed to evade one strike, but avoiding the remaining four was utterly impossible.

    Slash! Slash! Slash! Slash!

All four sword strikes carved into the Calamity Beast Lao Huo’s body as the might of the Holy Sword shredded him apart.

“This is Fivefold Instant Slash, Lao Huo,” Xia Yi said calmly. “You may be fast, but your defense means nothing before the Holy Sword. As long as even one strike lands, it’s enough to defeat you.”

    “…”

Driven by inertia, Lao Huo’s corpse slid far across the ground before collapsing motionless, no longer capable of regenerating.

Xia Yi had no time to mourn him.

Dodging attacks from the remaining Calamity Beasts, she used agile movement techniques to run across walls and rooftops, climbing all the way to the courthouse roof to observe the city outside.

    “Help! Somebody save me!!”

    “Monsters! There are monsters everywhere!”

“Mom… why did you turn into a monster too?!”

Throughout Molent City, frenzied Calamity Beasts were attacking ordinary civilians. Normal people stood no chance against them, either they died, or they too became infected and transformed into Calamity Beasts.

“Requesting reinforcements! Requesting reinforcements! Bullets are useless against these monsters!!”

“We can’t hold this street much longer! Tell headquarters to send support!”

“The monsters are coordinating as a group!”

The Calamity Beasts were overwhelmingly powerful compared to ordinary people. Even the Security Patrol could no longer contain the chaos.

Disaster had truly descended upon the city.

    Molent City, City Lord’s Tower.

“Damn it! How did things become like this?!”

Kennedy roared in fury and smashed the communication device in his hand.

Walking to the enormous floor-to-ceiling window, he looked out over the city below.

Night had fallen, yet uncontrolled fires burned across the city, illuminating the darkened sky.

Every street and alley echoed with monster roars and human screams. The city had completely lost its former order.

“The mutated monsters that appeared before could still be dealt with… so why can’t we stop them this time?!”

Kennedy could not understand it no matter how much he thought about it. He had done everything in his power to maintain the city’s stability, so why had it still fallen apart?

“City Lord! Bad news! The mutated monsters are gathering toward the city armory, they’re trying to seize it!”

Charlie no longer even bothered knocking before rushing into Kennedy’s office to report the situation.

“These mutated monsters seem to retain part of their rationality. They’re even more troublesome than last time, they’re acting collectively.”

    “What?!”

    Kennedy’s face instantly turned pale.

If the city armory fell, then everything would truly be over.

“Gather every combat-capable member of the Security Patrol. Abandon civilian rescue efforts and defend the armory immediately! If the armory falls, then our final hope disappears with it! We must hold the line at all costs!”
