Chapter 17 – House Arrest (Part One)
by Salted FishThe Dragon King seemed to have already put the matter out of his mind, paying no attention to it and spending his days practicing Qi cultivation to heal his wound, playing chess, and reading books. He was unusually pure-hearted and restrained in his desires.
People within the palace had vaguely learned that the Dragon King was injured. There was private gossip, but no one dared to ask further. A single piercing glance from their master could send anyone scurrying back.
Ye Qingzhou placed Ru Ye in a secluded courtyard close to his own residence, not wanting others to know of her existence.
If this got out, it would surely cause unnecessary talk and disturbance.
He also didn’t want his master to know that he was caring for this woman in such a way. Although his master hadn’t killed her, he certainly wouldn’t want Ye Qingzhou to treat her wound and protect her like this. His master would probably prefer that he torture the woman appropriately, but Ye Qingzhou deliberately chose not to do it.
Thinking of his master’s injury, he couldn’t help but want to laugh. The master had been idle for so many years. Suffering a little now and then wasn’t such a bad thing. After all, no one could really harm him. Consider it entertainment.
Ru Ye had been completely cut off from the outside world.
She didn’t know how badly the Dragon King was injured. She knew she had stabbed him and that he had then struck her unconscious with a palm strike.
She thought his injuries couldn’t be worse than hers, and certainly not life-threatening. Otherwise, she wouldn’t still be breathing.
One morning several days later, a lean and fierce-looking man ignored the guards’ attempts to stop him and barged in. He drew his blade and placed it against her neck, the edge touching her skin. A single light slash would sever her throat. She was too weak to resist.
She looked calmly at this man whose eyes were like a leopard’s.
Wei Bao stared at her coldly. Ye Qingzhou didn’t explain anything clearly, and it took him a lot of effort to roughly learn what had happened.
Although his master had forbidden him to get involved, as his master’s personal bodyguard, he absolutely could not pretend that nothing had happened.
He believed that his master’s injury was definitely related to this woman. That night, only the master and that woman were in the room, even though he couldn’t see what ability this woman have.
“Did you wound the master?” Wei Bao’s tone was fierce.
A faint smile appeared on Ru Ye’s lips. “Why don’t you go ask him?”
A killing intent flashed in Wei Bao’s eyes. “Who sent you?”
“Don’t you know?”
“So it really was the Stronghold.”
Ru Ye said nothing.
“So the Stronghold is only this capable.”
Ru Ye remained silent.
“Do you believe I’ll kill you?”
“Yes,” Ru Ye finally spoke.
“Listen to me. If anything happens to our master, I will kill you.”
“Do you think I could do anything to him?”
“Just wait and see. You will regret everything you’ve done.”
Ru Ye closed her eyes as if she had fallen asleep.
Wei Bao’s eyes blazed with fury. This woman actually dared to act as if he didn’t exist.
He raised his blade, feeling a strong urge to bring it down. But he suppressed it. Until he knew the truth of the matter and his master’s clear attitude, he could endure for a while. There would be plenty of time. He would not let her off easily.
He snorted coldly and walked out resentfully.
Once a leopard had marked its prey, it would not let the prey play any tricks. He was ready to kill at any moment.
The moment he left, Ru Ye frowned, clutching her abdomen. Just those few words had caused her such pain that her whole body broke out in a sweat.
That leopard-like young man had come to pry information from her, but it might as well be said that he had delivered information to her.
It turned out that man had indeed only suffered some injuries. It seemed the injuries were not trivial, otherwise this man would not have come with such ferocity. Yet they were not too severe either, otherwise this man would likely have beheaded her on the spot.
Also, the news had been tightly sealed. Many people here still didn’t know what happened.
…
The Dragon King’s wounds healed quickly. After just over ten days, the gash had closed and begun to scab.
Every time he removed his clothes and looked at the diagonal scar on his chest, he felt a dull ache there.
He knew his injuries were serious. In fact, he had nearly died.
He was almost killed by a small woman he had conquered in bed. It was an utter disgrace.
But that woman was a gift sent by heaven to amuse him. He would have good fun with her to pass the time. He just hoped she wouldn’t die too soon.
He had many scars on his body, all left from many years ago. Only this one was new.
His wounds were almost healed. It was time to settle accounts with her. He let out a wicked smile.
…
Ru Ye could barely move around now. Any movement with her waist caused agonizing pain in her abdomen, as if fire were burning her internal organs.
In her current state, even a child could knock her down.
That day, she was sitting by the window combing her hair when the door was kicked open. Wei Bao burst in, and without a word, grabbed her by the clothes on her chest and dragged her outside.
His was very strong, and his strides were long. She stumbled and fell behind him, constantly bumping into walls, tree trunks, and pillars. Each collision felt as if it might shatter her, but she remained very calm and silent.
He didn’t even look at her. By the end, he was almost dragging her along.
She felt as if she had traveled a great distance, through gardens, long winding corridors, and climb up step by step until finally they arrived before an magnificent large door.
The door was ajar. He pushed it open and, with no trace of pity, shoved her inside. She fell on the ground.
“The person is here.”
“Very good.”
Ru Ye heard a deep voice from ahead. She knew whose voice it was. Her heart gave a jolt, and the pain in her abdomen grew worse.
She felt many pairs of eyes staring at her. She struggled to prop herself up on her hands, trying to stand up.
