Chapter 436
by 林方方Chapter 436 Did You Get All of That on Recording?
Hearing this arrogant voice, Diao Yiping was instantly stunned!
Immediately after, everyone watched as Qin Ranlong came storming over from a distance. Today he wasn’t wearing a suit — instead he had on a set of camouflage fatigues with no rank insignia, sleeves rolled halfway up, radiating a murderous air!
”Ranlong?” Diao Yiping never expected the old chief’s grandson to show up here!
What had he just called Su Rui? Company commander?
This young man, who didn’t look all that old, was actually Qin Ranlong’s company commander?
Diao Yiping had once served as a battalion commander under Qin Zhizhang, and later used the Qin family’s connections to transfer to a civilian post. Although the Qin family’s influence in local politics had gradually waned over the years, Diao Yiping was still regarded by many as a figure in the Qin family’s camp.
Over the past two years, as the Qin family’s support for him had steadily diminished, Diao Yiping had begun looking for new opportunities. This was an excellent one — if he could complete the mission smoothly and forge a connection with that senior leader at the ministry, he might just achieve a second leap in his official career.
But Qin Ranlong’s appearance had put Diao Yiping in a difficult position!
The Qin family had cultivated him. If he ignored their wishes now and threw himself into someone else’s arms, then he, Diao Yiping, would be an ingrate! Doing it discreetly was one thing, but if the betrayal was too blatant, who in officialdom would ever dare to use him again?
”Diao Yiping, my grandfather raised you to where you are today, and this is how you repay him?” Qin Ranlong strode right up to Diao Yiping. Being half a head taller, he was practically spitting in the other man’s face!
”Ranlong, Ranlong, it’s absolutely not what you think…”
Diao Yiping’s head was spinning. Although he was technically Qin Ranlong’s elder, this wild young man had always had a fierce reputation. Now he was calling him by his name and shouting at him, and not only could Diao Yiping say nothing in return — he had to be completely deferential!
”Not what I think? Then what is it?”
Qin Ranlong was blunt: “Do you know that Su Rui is my company commander? The finest man in our unit? The great benefactor I, Qin Ranlong, will spend my entire life being grateful to!”
Diao Yiping wiped the spit from his face, nearly on the verge of tears: “I didn’t know, I truly didn’t know any of this… he…”
The officers didn’t recognize Qin Ranlong. Watching this ferocious man come cursing and storming over from a distance while their own captain stammered and stuttered, they exchanged bewildered glances, unsure what to do — not that they had known what to do at any point since the whole thing started that evening.
”He what? He is my company commander, and a combat hero of this nation. Diao Yiping, Captain Diao, have you got some kind of death wish? You actually dare to arrest a combat hero of the nation?” Qin Ranlong roared, rolling up his sleeves again, looking ready to throw down at any moment!
The wild young man’s reputation was well earned — that voice of his boomed so loud it left everyone’s ears ringing!
”Combat hero?”
Those four words made Diao Yiping feel like the ground had dropped out from under him!
How could a murder suspect be a combat hero?
But coming from Qin Ranlong’s mouth, how could it be false?
”Ranlong, there must be a misunderstanding here. Even if he is a combat hero of the nation, he is still a suspect in a deliberate homicide case. This is an arrest warrant from the ministry!”
Diao Yiping produced the arrest warrant stamped with a blood-red official seal, hoping to use it to intimidate Qin Ranlong. His path to promotion was at stake — he couldn’t let this reckless young hothead ruin everything!
”Diao Yiping, I really didn’t see it before — now that your wings are strong, you want to fly solo, is that it?”
Qin Ranlong glared fiercely: “Let me be straight with you. My company commander’s combat hero medal was personally awarded by the Number One. Doubting him means doubting the Number One!”
With that, Qin Ranlong snatched the arrest warrant issued directly by the Public Security Ministry and tore it to shreds!
Doubting the Number One?
Who could bear that kind of accusation?
Diao Yiping was completely cornered by Qin Ranlong, his face flushed crimson!
”Ranlong, you’re just twisting words! These are two completely separate matters. A combat hero is a combat hero, but if he has committed a crime, he must face punishment! No matter how you try to stop me today, I am taking Su Rui away!”
Being challenged again and again by someone younger — even the most patient man would find it impossible to save face!
”Diao Yiping, you still dare to twist words? Fine. You want to arrest my company commander? Then arrest me first!” Qin Ranlong looked like a man who had nothing to lose.
”And let me warn you, Diao Yiping — starting tonight, the Qin family is done with you. Don’t go around calling yourself one of my grandfather’s men anymore. I, Qin Ranlong, swear that from now on the Qin family will never give you any support — on the contrary, we will do everything in our power to stop you!”
Hearing those words, the color drained instantly from Diao Yiping’s face!
Without the Qin family to lean on, he would have no choice but to curry favor with that senior leader at the ministry!
He steeled himself and said, “Ranlong, it’s not that I don’t want to stand on the Qin family’s side — there are simply far too many suspicious points in this matter. I must uphold judicial fairness in Huaxia!”
Judicial fairness! Those words rang out with great conviction!
Hearing them, Qin Ranlong nearly exploded with rage!
But the man spoke with such righteous certainty and without a single opening to attack — no matter how furious Qin Ranlong was, he had nothing to say!
”Captain Diao, what you just said — does that mean as long as someone breaks the law, regardless of their identity, they must face punishment?”
At that moment, Su Rui suddenly spoke.
”Of course,” said Diao Yiping.
He hadn’t expected that what should have been a simple arrest would draw out so many formidable figures. Seeing Su Rui’s tone soften, he couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief!
”Very well.”
Su Rui pulled a black briefcase from the car and tossed it directly to Diao Yiping, saying, “Everything inside is criminal evidence against Nangong Shun. I can guarantee that every incident and every word in there is true. If the capital’s criminal police are willing to take the time to investigate, the findings should be quite substantial.”
”You won’t even come back with me for questioning — why should I believe you?” Diao Yiping sneered, casually tossing the briefcase to one of his subordinates.
”Su Rui, you’re on death’s door and you still want to throw mud at me?”
Nangong Shun had been standing to the side watching the show, but hearing that Su Rui actually dared to turn on him at a moment like this, he was instantly furious. He walked out from the compound entrance and strode quickly to the side of the police car.
”Su Rui, do you think smearing me at this point will do you any good? You killed five people — that’s an undeniable fact! You’re finished, you’re absolutely finished!”
Nangong Shun stood among the cluster of officers, pointing and shouting. He knew exactly what Su Rui was capable of and was terrified the man might kill him on the spot, so he didn’t dare step any closer.
Su Rui shot Nangong Shun a contemptuous glance, then continued speaking to Diao Yiping: “Nangong Shun has a trusted aide named Li Xuan, who came to me about a month ago. All the evidence here was provided by him. I’ve already had every matter preliminarily investigated — the findings are deeply disturbing.”
”Li Xuan?”
At the sound of that name, Nangong Shun’s body gave a jolt, and he cursed inwardly: “That damned traitor!”
”I did throw five people into the sea. But every one of those five was a habitual criminal who had done nothing but evil. I also had someone compile all of their illegal activities over the years — the relevant materials are all in this briefcase.”
Diao Yiping said nothing, his brow deeply furrowed, seemingly weighing what to do. The complexity of this situation had far exceeded anything he had anticipated!
”Captain Diao, since you said earlier that you would uphold justice and handle things impartially, I ask that you treat all parties equally and investigate the full circumstances of every matter. Otherwise, I believe many of the people behind me will not be willing to let this go.”
The moment Su Rui finished speaking, more than a dozen furious gazes landed on Diao Yiping — and he could feel that those stares were filled with unmistakable menace!
He knew that if he didn’t take Nangong Shun away, those state security operatives would never let him off the hook. They would dig up every disciplinary violation he had ever committed, even at the cost of their own lives, and expose it all to the public!
”Diao Yiping, what are you standing there for? Hurry up and arrest someone! Su Rui has already admitted to killing five people — what are you spacing out for? Did your brain stop working?” Nangong Shun bellowed at the back of Diao Yiping’s head.
The most pitiful figure of all was Captain Diao — he was a rat caught in a bellows, getting blasted from both ends!
In front, he had to endure Qin Ranlong’s spittle. Behind, he had Nangong Shun jabbing a finger at the back of his head and cursing him. Where was even a shred of dignity for a criminal police captain?
He clenched his fists, his body trembling slightly from the sheer intensity of his rage.
Seeing that Diao Yiping still hadn’t reacted, Nangong Shun continued his tirade: “Hey Diao, you ungrateful wretch! Have you forgotten how the Nangong family has been throwing money at you these past two years? Without our backing, do you honestly think you’d have a shot at getting into the next leadership team at the capital city bureau?”
Wow!
Nangong Shun had lost his head in his fury and blurted all of that out!
Diao Yiping nearly had a breakdown from being set up by this low-intelligence, low-awareness fool. He turned around and roared furiously, “Nangong Shun, watch your words! That is blatant slander against me!”
Nangong Shun still hadn’t grasped what was happening. Seeing that Diao Yiping actually dared to shout at him, his rage burned even hotter: “Diao Yiping, who do you think you are, talking to me like that? Slander you? You’re nothing but a dog I hired to bite people. You think just because I tossed you a couple of bones you’ve forgotten your place?”
Being insulted so viciously was a complete humiliation for Diao Yiping, but unlike Nangong Shun he wasn’t reckless. Even with rage boiling inside him, he kept himself in check.
”Young Master Nangong, I hope you will watch what you say — especially at a critical moment like this!”
Diao Yiping deliberately bit down hard on the word “critical,” clearly sending Nangong Shun a signal!
Su Rui shook his head and said to Xiang Feng beside him, “Got all of that recorded?”
