    Chapter 214: Bravery

Upon opening her eyes after a nap, the first thing Mi Xiaoliu saw was Gloria’s face, grinning just two centimeters away.

She had been staring at Mi Xiaoliu’s sleeping face for quite some time.

    So adorable.

    “Misha, your sister’s here.”

Mi Xiaoliu trembled, sat up, and froze in place.

Perfect—Misha hadn’t been scared by her.

Gloria was overjoyed. This was proof that their sisterly relationship was on the mend.

Then she sniffed the air and frowned.

Looking down, she noticed Mi Xiaoliu’s shorts were noticeably darker, with holy water trickling down from the hem of her pants, along the back of her legs, all the way to her ankles.

    Holy shit!

The feeling was like drinking too much water in the middle of the night, only to wake up and suddenly see a female ghost right in your face.

She quickly carried Mi Xiaoliu to the bathroom for a thorough cleaning. Mi Xiaoliu didn’t dare move a muscle, letting Gloria handle her as she pleased.

Gloria was much more well-behaved than Yiwen, at most pinching her calves and lamenting how her little sister hadn’t gained any weight. But this only made Mi Xiaoliu even more terrified.

She was utterly convinced Gloria would eat her.

So after the bath, Gloria found Mi Xiaoliu still huddled in the corner, no different from before.

The only change was that Gloria could no longer bring herself to smile upon seeing her frightened expression.

And now, Mi Xiaoliu had also started to fear Yiwen a little.

She remembered how Yiwen liked to nibble on her toes.

Yiwen wanted to eat her too.

Mi Xiaoliu hugged Circle, hoping it would grow up quickly to protect her.

She thought Circle could grow into a panda.

    “Misha, look.”

Gloria chewed a piece of gum, spat it onto a chair, and then sat on it herself.

Next, she took out a hamburger, squeezed two packets of mustard into it, took a big bite, and immediately spat it out, her face turning red, her eyes rolling back from the spiciness.

She was tormenting herself using the same methods she’d once used to bully Mi Xiaoliu, employing a “bitter sacrifice” tactic to win her sister’s affection.

She genuinely couldn’t think of any other way to mend their sisterly bond.

Back then, she hadn’t really noticed, but now, trying it herself, she realized she’d been utterly inhuman—how could she have subjected her own little sister to such torture?

Mi Xiaoliu shrank into the corner, motionless.

    Gloria was a bit frustrated.

Why wasn’t she reacting at all?

    Gloria pressed on.

She took off her shoes, removed her knee-high socks, and brought them up to her face.

    The door opened.

Okulet and Gloria stared at each other for a good ten seconds.

Okulet wiped the door with his sleeve and closed it nonchalantly. “Don’t bully your sister.”

Sometimes, Gloria really wanted to whack him over the back of the head.

    ……

Out on the streets, Gloria walked ahead while Mi Xiaoliu clung to Okulet’s sleeve, following far behind.

Every time Gloria turned to check if her sister was still there, Mi Xiaoliu would freeze, her body slightly turned to the side, ready to bolt.

This had happened before—when she’d gone out with the fake Misha.

Back then, she’d pushed the real Misha away in annoyance, not letting her interrupt her sisterly time with the imposter.

Gloria’s heart twisted, her cheek muscles tightening into a slight grimace.

“…That’s roughly how the Night Demon’s ability works. If he suddenly attacks, don’t panic. Switch to your combat stance, tense up, and curl into a ball to protect your face. His ability only lasts a few hours.”

Though it was hard to execute the desired movements once you lost your senses.

Without sight, a person could only rely on touch to interact with their surroundings. If both sight and touch were gone, they wouldn’t even know if they’d moved at all.

Losing all five senses made no difference between being alive and dead—in fact, it might be worse than death.

This was undoubtedly a torment worse than suffering.

But knowing the Night Demon’s abilities made it slightly more bearable, since everyone understood it would only last a few hours.

The real terror lay in the unknown.

Not knowing what was happening outside, whether the Night Demon was approaching, whether he’d stabbed you, whether you were already dead.

Even if you managed to fall asleep, how could you be sure it was normal sleep and not the beginning of your life slipping away?

Yiwen had relatively strong mental resilience. It was said that the kid from the Black family still hadn’t recovered—his first mission had ended in such a disaster.

“The Night Demon hurt Yiwen?” Mi Xiaoliu looked up at him.

“Yeah. Don’t act recklessly. He won’t kill Jingyin, so your safety is the priority now.” Okulet patted her head.

Mi Xiaoliu tugged his sleeve. “Fight him.”

    “No.”

Okulet’s eyes flicked to the side. He took his youngest daughter’s hand and, despite her slight resistance, quickened his pace to catch up with Gloria.

    ……

What kind of person was the Sixth Fractal?

Only the researchers knew the exact number of lab rats in Easter’s Second Branch, but gathered together, they could be described as a teeming mass. With such a large quantity, it was impossible to give each one their own room.

As a result, some less important lab rats shared quarters, and even if fights broke out leading to maiming or death, no one might intervene.

Many test subjects had never seen the Sixth Fractal, but as the leader of the “Avengers,” he had—because her patrol route happened to pass the corridor outside his cell.

At first glance, she seemed like a rather cute little girl. That was the only comment one could make based on appearance.

Most people’s impression of her: fear, hatred.

This girl, who could probably charm a legion of lolicon enthusiasts with a bit of dressing up, might very well be the last person they ever saw.

It was only natural for people to fear death, and that fear inevitably extended to the executioner—just as some looked down on those in the funeral industry.

If you looked past her appearance, how could anyone like her? She was one of Easter’s people.

Everyone from Easter deserved to die. None of that “she’s a victim too” nonsense. She was called the Sixth Fractal—a victim who’d chosen to work for Easter. She deserved to be sliced to death a hundred times over.

Among all the Executors, the Sixth Fractal was undoubtedly the easiest to deal with, aside from the Third Fractal.

When Easter began starving the test subjects slated for surgery, in a fit of rage, he’d reached through the bars of his cell and strangled her with his own hands, to the cheers of the crowd.

That Night Demon had left her profile behind, probably hoping they’d attack the Sixth Fractal so he could reap the rewards, right?

With a range of less than three hundred meters and countless ways to counter his ability, the sharp-eared among them kept watch at all times. If he dared show up, they’d all die together.

“Ordinary methods can’t kill her. The goal of this operation is capture. Damn it, she should taste the suffering we’ve endured! Maintain formation—speedsters go first, move nimbly and avoid her spatial displacement. Her ability can fit an entire building.”

Right there on the street, they struck.

Among the pedestrians, those walking in sync suddenly paused. Then, one of them turned into a blur, covering twenty meters in an instant to appear right in front of Mi Xiaoliu.

    Motionless.

Okulet grabbed the man by the throat. Already reduced to a limbless torso, the man could only let out choked, gurgling noises, unable to scream properly.

Such a bizarre and grotesque scene instantly drew shrieks from passersby—this kind of reaction proved their mental resilience wasn’t up to Fanzui City’s standards. Still, at least they had the sense to flee rather than sticking around to gawk, which was better than the residents of Sunshine City.

“Holy shit, old man, what the hell are you doing?!” Gloria quickly turned Mi Xiaoliu around to shield her from the bloody sight.

Okulet frowned. He could roughly guess who these people were.

Even the most radical vigilantes wouldn’t choose to strike so openly on the street, head-on like this.

    Were these guys idiots?

But even if they were idiots, their willingness to launch a frontal assault meant they had confidence.

No one retreated just because their vanguard had failed.

As mentioned earlier, they had absolute confidence.

Wang Qi, leader of the “Avengers.”

    His Abilities:

    – LV3 Hardening

    – LV3 Physical Enhancement

    – LV3 Vision Enhancement

    – LV3 Iron Body Technique

    – LV2 Static Electricity

A total of five composite abilities.

A month before coming to Fanzui City, he had personally killed two Federation LV4s.

Mi Xiaoliu turned her head to look.

Led by a burly man with eyebrows that seemed to grow beneath his nose and a thick mustache, about twenty people closed in from different directions. Okulet stood motionless, as if caught off guard.

    Then, like a thunderbolt—

A whip-crack sonic boom erupted as a transparent energy-warped elbow strike lashed out.

    “Mi Xiaoliu, stay behind me!”

The deafening impact echoed through the street, followed by an eerie, frozen silence.

Wang Qi’s legs were sticking straight up in the air, his head embedded in the concrete.

Mi Xiaoliu’s fist was buried in the ground alongside his skull.

    This person… made her uncomfortable.

“Was he always this brave?” Sasha said.
