Still,he had not let hatred completely cloud his judgment — he did not bring the stool down on Bai Wangchuan’s head,otherwise the second young master of the Bai family would have died right then and there!

Even so,the solid wooden stool still easily cracked Bai Wangchuan’s ribs!

It seemed his brain truly had been beaten to mush — not even a fracture that severe was enough to jolt him back to consciousness.

“Alright,you can stop now. If you keep going like this,you’re really going to kill him.”

Just as the furious Wei Dongyang was about to continue laying into Bai Wangchuan,Su Rui reached out and pulled the stool away from him.

He despised Bai Wangchuan,but that did not mean he wanted to watch the man get beaten to death right here. While Su Rui did not particularly care whether the other man lived or died,it would bring about consequences that were far too troublesome.

Yet even after Su Rui had taken the stool away,Wei Dongyang remained in a frenzied state,continuing to kick at Bai Wangchuan.

“He ruined me. I want him to die a miserable death!”

Su Rui shook his head,and with a swift backhand slap,sent Wei Dongyang crashing to the ground!

“Before Bai Wangchuan comes to,you’d better find somewhere abroad to lie low and spend the rest of your life in hiding. Otherwise,the Bai family will not let you go.”

Su Rui leaned down and spoke quietly into Wei Dongyang’s ear: “If you don’t leave now,you will surely die.”

Hearing Su Rui’s words,Wei Dongyang began to pull himself back from his frenzied state. He fixed his gaze on Bai Wangchuan,and a flash of fear suddenly crossed his eyes.

It was as though only now did he realize just how insane a thing he had done!

Without another thought,he scrambled to his feet and fled the banquet hall in a panic!

Watching his retreating figure,Su Rui let out a quiet sigh. Life was just that unpredictable. Barring any surprises,this Wei Dongyang would probably never dare set foot in China again for the rest of his life.

Zhou Xianwei stepped out from the crowd and said: “I knew all along it was this guy pulling the strings behind the scenes,but I never expected the outcome to be this dramatic.”

“Those who do evil will bring about their own destruction.”

Looking at Bai Wangchuan,whose face was black and blue and barely recognizable,Su Rui said with contempt: “Those who humiliate others will be humiliated in return.”

Zhou Xianwei’s words also carried a note of mockery: “Brother,honestly,watching someone else beat him up — somehow it feels even more satisfying than if I’d done it myself.”

Su Rui shot him an exasperated look: “Because you’re twisted in the head.”

With that,Su Rui paid no further attention to Bai Wangchuan lying nearby,and instead walked over to Smith’s side,saying: “Are you leaving?”

Smith smiled bitterly: “There are far too many things to deal with back at headquarters. I have no choice but to leave immediately.”

“What a shame,I was actually planning to treat you to a meal.” The way Su Rui said it sounded utterly insincere no matter how you heard it — if not for his aggressive short-selling,neither Gaoqi Bank nor Smith would have ended up in their current predicament.

Things being what they were,Smith could only respond with a rueful smile: “Apollo,this time it was truly my fault. I hope we can still be friends.”

His earlier high-profile appearance,with all the bowing and apologizing,had simply been an attempt to give Apollo a way out and ease some of the anger the other man felt.

“I don’t hold too much against you. My target was never you,from beginning to end.”

“Is it the person behind Jeremy?” Smith was sharp,and he had zeroed in on the crux of the matter.

At this point,he had also come to realize that the reason Xu Wenjie had behaved so abnormally must have been because there was another force standing behind him!

Su Rui nodded: “So if you want to blame anyone,blame the fact that Xu Wenjie happened to be Gaoqi’s man. If he had been the investment director at Huasheng or Morgan,it would have been their stocks taking the hit.”

Smith continued with a bitter smile: “Apollo,I never imagined your capabilities were this formidable. No one knows Gaoqi Bank’s power better than I do,yet in front of you,Gaoqi had absolutely no way to fight back.”

“Smith,you’re a talented person. Have you ever considered that if the day comes when you truly can no longer make it on Wall Street,you could come work with me.” Su Rui patted him on the shoulder and said: “This place can give your dreams a new beginning.”

“My dreams?” Hearing Su Rui’s words,a flicker of confusion and helplessness passed through Smith’s eyes: “I don’t know what my dreams are. But Apollo,I give you my word — from this day forward,I will never stand against you.”

Su Rui laughed heartily and took no offense,saying instead: “If Gaoqi ever lets you go,call me immediately.”

Smith looked at Su Rui for a long moment and said: “Long live our friendship.”

Su Rui repeated the words,then watched as Smith departed.

The bond between men was always a strange thing — one moment they were at each other’s throats,and the next they found themselves feeling a quiet mutual respect.

For reasons hard to explain,many of the women present who witnessed this scene suddenly felt a sting behind their eyes,overcome by an inexplicable urge to cry.

Before attending this cocktail party,no one had anticipated that any of this would happen — not only had Gaoqi CEO Smith appeared in person to apologize,but the Bai family’s second young master,Bai Wangchuan,had very nearly been beaten to death.

Bai Wangchuan usually traveled with two bodyguards,but since this was a cocktail party,his bodyguards were still out in the car fast asleep,completely unaware that their employer was lying here like a dead dog!

Xu Wenjie pulled out his phone and once again dialed the number he had committed firmly to memory.

“Butler,I have important information to report to the master.” When the call connected,Xu Wenjie suddenly felt his heart pounding wildly!
