    Chapter 170: I Fell Asleep

“Where did you run off to?” Yiwen hugged Mi Xiaoliu tightly, a hint of anger in her voice.

It was a punishing embrace, putting considerable pressure on the girl’s petite frame.

Mi Xiaoliu didn’t speak. Instead, she hugged Yiwen back, her small body trembling slightly—whether from fear of the flames earlier or something else, it was hard to tell.

Yiwen froze for a moment before gently patting Mi Xiaoliu’s back.

Was she really this scared of making me angry?

Then, Mi Xiaoliu pulled away slightly, looking puzzled, and lightly tapped Yiwen’s chest twice.

    Something had poked her.

Yiwen’s expression darkened as she reached into her collar and yanked out a small, mysterious cube.

    “It’s this.”

Anyone else might’ve thought Mi Xiaoliu had been jabbed by a rib. This little pervert must’ve done it on purpose, burrowing into my chest like that. Sorry I’m not ‘well-endowed’ enough for you.

Mi Xiaoliu stayed silent, her gaze fixed intently on the cube.

    ……

Top floor of a residential building, rooftop.

“You might not believe this, but I just ran away with my tail between my legs,” Riels said, calling his boss to calm his nerves.

“That is shocking. I didn’t think anyone besides the Little Demon King could force you into retreat,” replied the androgynous mechanical voice.

“No, it’s not that I couldn’t fight her—I just didn’t want to. Sure, she partially nullified my abilities, but only the ones affecting her. I could still reinforce other objects or my own strength to attack.” He paused, then added stubbornly, “I just didn’t want to hit a kid, especially a little girl.”

The more he thought about it, the more it bothered him. He couldn’t resist adding, “You want me to fight Old Ao to prove who’s stronger? Within 60 kilometers, I’ll admit defeat. Beyond that, I’ll wipe the floor with him.”

The confidence of someone whose ability range outclassed his rivals.

He wasn’t lying—there were plenty of ways he could’ve killed Mi Xiaoliu if he wanted to. But all of them fell under the “lethal” category, and he had no reason or desire to go that far.

The strangest part? Just as he was getting serious because of her eerie flames, the girl herself panicked.

She seemed… afraid of her own power?

That was rare. Abilities were, at their core, just extra functions of the body—like how sight would seem like a superpower to someone born blind.

Why would someone fear their own instincts?

“Mmm. If she weren’t so young and inexperienced, she’d definitely earn a spot as an executive,” the boss said bluntly, offering no comfort.

“Between her and the Red Prince, who do you think is more important? They don’t seem to get along,” Riels mused.

“Did you call just to ask that?” The boss sidestepped the question.

“Of course not. Here’s the real issue: That brat took advantage of my reluctance to hurt her, to beat me up, though she didn’t do much damage, and then stole my teleporter.”

Riels rubbed his stubbled chin, watching Mi Xiaoliu through binoculars from afar.

“The kicker? After stealing it, she got so scared she hid in my daughter’s arms for comfort…”

Making him look like a total chump.

He’d originally planned to let the battery go—he could’ve used his ability to channel a matching current as a temporary substitute.

Then he’d thought to check out his daughter’s new girlfriend before leaving, only to somehow offend her within minutes, lose the fight, and drop loot.

    ……

A four-star hotel—not as ostentatious as a five-star, but still far beyond what most ordinary people could afford for a temporary stay.

The city’s nightscape was visible right from the window, and room service was available 24/7 for any craving. This was the life of the wealthy—pure comfort.

Back in Fanzui City, their base had always been a shabby little shack, making Hayato Ishigane suspect their group was strapped for cash. Hell, the money he alone had earned these past two months could’ve covered a down payment on a decent place.

The trip to Sunshine City had gone smoothly—aside from some idiot trying to sneak through the ETC lane, only to get his leg ripped off by Wei Shi—nothing else noteworthy had happened.

    Sunshine City really was peaceful.

Yet despite the tranquil atmosphere, Hayato kept his breathing unnaturally controlled, not daring to make a sound—because the boss was fuming.

“Are you an idiot?” Wei Shi’s first words after picking up the phone.

    “I’m Xiaoliu,” Mi Xiaoliu replied.

Wei Shi’s facial muscles twitched. “Who told you to run around in the middle of the night? You want the cops to catch you? If I see another headline about you, I swear I’ll sell you by the pound—”

The scolding lasted a solid ten minutes.

Even after hanging up, Wei Shi wasn’t satisfied. He turned to Hayato: “Why are you breathing so quietly? Like a damn ghost.”

    Hayato: “……”

The Hermit quickly stepped in, massaging Wei Shi’s shoulders and saving Hayato’s life in the process.

“Be a little gentler with the princess sometimes. You like her, don’t you? Look how scared she is of you now.”

Wei Shi shot the Hermit a glare, and she immediately shut up.

“Sunshine City’s FBI is cracking down hard on the Black-Clothed One. Fanzui City’s getting suspicious too—they all think the Black-Clothed One is targeting the governor.” Wei Shi shrugged off the Hermit’s hands.

“Let them be suspicious. The princess isn’t even part of this operation,” the Hermit said, shoving Hayato out of the room before Wei Shi’s irritation could land on him.

“Because of her, security’s tighter than ever.” Wei Shi pulled up a map of Sunshine City on his tablet.

Marked on it was the governor’s exact route.

A straight line cutting through the forest to the city center—meaning air travel, likely by helicopter.

    ……

Back in Mi Xiaoliu’s room, she hung up the phone, curled up on the bed, and hugged her knees.

“This isn’t your fault, Master! Who could’ve predicted that? Blame that buzzcut fox instead!” Sasha hurried to comfort her.

Due to the rule forbidding direct or indirect assistance in killing fellow organization members, Mi Xiaoliu would likely have to settle her grudge with the Red Prince on her own.

Sasha didn’t know if Wei Shi would break the rules for Mi Xiaoliu. If he didn’t, her master might be heartbroken. If he did, and Wei Shi got branded a traitor because of her, she’d be even more devastated.

And if Mi Xiaoliu killed the Red Prince herself, got labeled a traitor, and ended up opposing Wei Shi—that would crush her completely.

    Sasha was at a loss.

“Master, you stole that machine, right? Maybe it can help track down the guy with the Red Prince. Let’s take a look.”

“Mmm.” Mi Xiaoliu took it out.

It resembled a hair dryer, but where the nozzle should’ve been was instead a camera lens. The side had a small display, and a transparent glass panel could extend out—like Scouter glasses from Dragon Ball.

The handle at the bottom matched the square device hanging from Yiwen’s neck, though it looked charred, as if it had been through an explosion. A strap at the end prevented it from slipping out of grip.

Even Riels couldn’t repair it without understanding its structure—and he’d never bothered studying his own tools that deeply.

It’s like how most people don’t disassemble perfectly good phones for fun—what if you can’t put them back together?

Following Sasha’s instructions, Mi Xiaoliu pressed what looked like the power button. The side screen lit up with a red battery icon, alongside “0%” and a “Shutting down in 10 seconds” warning.

So the burnt handle was the battery.

“We’ll have to ask that little white-haired girl. But Master can’t go like this. Who knows where she got that battery? If we ask directly, she’ll get suspicious… Let’s wait until she’s asleep and steal it.”

    “Mmm.”

Mi Xiaoliu walked out and knocked on Yiwen’s door.

    “Yiwen, are you asleep?”

Rustling sounds. Yiwen, now in pajamas, opened the door in confusion. “Not yet. What’s up?”

    “Mmm.”

Mi Xiaoliu turned and went back to her room.

    Yiwen: “??”

I said I’m not asleep—why are you leaving? Were you waiting for me to fall asleep?

…Do you want to do something to me while I’m sleeping?!

Yiwen’s mind raced. She hurried back to bed, turned off the lights, and texted Mi Xiaoliu:

    “I fell asleep.”

Then she closed her eyes and pretended to sleep.

Not because she was expecting anything! She just wanted to see what Mi Xiaoliu was up to!

“She’s asleep.” Mi Xiaoliu got up to make her move.

Luckily, Sasha stopped her in time.
