Chapter 131
by Need_More_SleepChapter 131: The Local Feds Are So Rude
“Codename ‘Princess,’ rookie of Group 42. Spatial ability user, mission completion rate: 60%, positive rating: 30%.”
The Crow Man gazed into the distance, calmly reciting the information Mi Xiaoliu had registered with Night Owl.
“Why hasn’t a liability with stats like that been abandoned yet? Doesn’t Group 42 worry about dragging down the team’s overall score?” the Clown Girl said, exasperated.
“Reportedly repelled a Fed LV4 physique-enhanced ‘Humpback Whale’ in a head-on confrontation, but it was most likely the work of a multi-skilled operator,” the Crow Man added.
“But judging from what we’ve seen, her close-combat skills aren’t bad either—just not as formidable as the rumors suggest. As for why she’s still around… maybe because this little loli is cuter than you?”
“Bullshit! Cuteness can’t put food on the table!” The Clown Girl’s voice lost its usual mischievous edge.
No girl wants to hear someone say another girl is cuter than her.
“We shouldn’t have any conflict with Group 42. Looks like we’ll have to let the boss warn them when we get back… Let’s get out of here first. The boss said this area’s crawling with Feds and told us to evacuate ASAP.” The Clown Girl shook her phone.
“I thought he’d be happy to show his face to the Feds and let everyone know he’s here,” the Crow Man said, grabbing the male clown who hadn’t said a word the whole time, while scooping Misha up with his other hand, then turning to leave.
“The boss is crazy, not stupid,” the Clown Girl followed.
Meanwhile, Gloria stared in shock at her nearly ruined high-heeled boots. A pair worth almost 100,000—ruined just like that. After all, the price was for showing off, not for actual quality.
The moment she kicked down the wall, ready to follow up with an attack on the creepy peeping tom, she never expected the other party to block her ankle with a hand smaller than hers, then use a strength utterly mismatched to their size to hurl her flying over ten meters.
What baffled her wasn’t just that—she’d already recognized the shameless voyeur’s identity.
The Black-Clothed One, and definitely the real deal. Even so, that didn’t mean the other could beat her, after all, she was a “Light” contractor, with absolute first-strike advantage, maxed-out armor penetration and speed.
Strangely, the more she looked at that skinny little figure, the more it resembled the brat she’d bullied just that afternoon.
Gloria narrowed her eyes.
Mi Xiaoliu had no idea what Gloria was thinking, Mi Xiaoliu just wanted to get as far away from Gloria as possible.
“Bad news, Master! She seems to have recognized you!” Sasha noticed Gloria’s suspicious expression.
Hearing this, Mi Xiaoliu—who’d been about to grit her teeth and leave despite the numbness—hesitated. Rubbing her butt, she reluctantly took a few small steps toward Gloria.
“I’m not Mi Xiaoliu.”
Gloria: “……”
“Really not.” Mi Xiaoliu added.
Gloria began to suspect she was being treated like an idiot.
What was even more infuriating was that this brat clearly had the strength to take on an LV4 head-on, yet deliberately acted weak in front of her. What, was he (she) trying to play the pig to eat the tiger? Trying to show off by feigning weakness? Had he (she) read too many novels?
“Are you really that interested in what I’m doing?” Gloria shoved her hands in her pockets and, expressionless, managed only to force out this question.
This was the second time she’d caught this brat eavesdropping on her and the Clown Girl.
Mi Xiaoliu shook her head.
“Come here.” Gloria beckoned to her.
Mi Xiaoliu shook her head again and took a step back to keep a safe distance.
Based on Gloria’s past experience, if she made even a slightly bigger move, this brat would turn and run. How could a brat like this possibly be following her on her own? Most likely, someone behind her was making her do it.
What? Were those Tian Xing Dao guys, who couldn’t even protect themselves, really setting their sights on “Star”?
But wasn’t the fact that the Little Demon King was her father supposed to be a secret? And the fact that “Star” was with him?
Right, so how did that Clown Girl know?
Gloria turned her head and saw that the three of them had long since left.
“You’re done for. I’m going to tell Old Auntie that you’re working as a killer.” Gloria once again resorted to her underhanded trick of tattling.
But this time she was serious—she pulled out her phone and was about to call Heli.
Mi Xiaoliu grabbed her sleeve and quietly looked at her, though Gloria couldn’t see her eyes at all thanks to the hood.
“You made my clothes dirty.” Gloria pushed her hand away and flicked at her clothes in distaste.
“I’ll wash them for you.” Mi Xiaoliu said.
“Beg me.” Gloria made a silly face.
“Please.” Mi Xiaoliu.
“Even if you beg, I’m still going to tell.” Gloria was determined to be as mean as possible.
“Meow.” Mi Xiaoliu tried using the same method she used to coax Sister Hermit, and even leaned against Gloria like a kitten.
All it earned her was a shudder from Gloria, who dodged away with a disgusted “Ew.”
“Listen up, kid. This is serious advice. Never hang out with those Tian Xing Dao guys. They’re going to be wiped out sooner or later. If you get caught with them, your life will be ruined, do you get it?”
Unable to get through on the phone, Gloria sent Heli a message while trotting out her usual “underage execution law” to scare Mi Xiaoliu.
Noisy commotion rose in the distance—the sound of police searching the area. While it’s a cliché in TV shows for such searches to be easily noticed, when the operation is this big, it’s actually hard not to be detected.
“Miss Gloria, what are you doing here?” Soon, a police officer with a pumpkin helmet arrived.
It wasn’t exactly public knowledge, but the last time the school principal made a call to bail someone out, a lot of people remembered this high-society young lady.
When someone’s pretty, even a single encounter is easy to recall.
“Have you seen any suspicious people? Like, say, someone in black?”
“Can’t you see I’ve been attacked?” Gloria sat on a relatively clean piece of cloth and pointed at her high-heeled boots, the soles of which had been worn down at an angle.
Even though it was just one move, she still looked a bit disheveled—it was hard to hide.
“They already got hit with three tranquilizer darts…” Pumpkin Head muttered under his breath. “I’ll have someone bring you new shoes right away.”
“No need. He ran off that way. Go catch him—I want to get my revenge in person.” Gloria gritted her teeth and randomly pointed in a direction, then punched the cloth she was sitting on with her little fist.
From an angle Pumpkin Head couldn’t see, the cloth under Gloria’s bottom shifted slightly.
“O-okay.” Pumpkin Head gave Gloria a puzzled look.
He couldn’t help but feel this scene was just like something from TV, where someone points in a random direction to send pursuers on a wild goose chase.
But he was probably overthinking it. As a descendant of heroes, Gloria had no reason to help some wanted criminal she’d never met—even if the girl did look harmless.
Not every descendant of heroes could be as stupidly lovestruck as Dias Black, right?
“The ‘Black-Clothed One’ went north. Initiate pursuit plan C.”
“Copy that.”
Watching Pumpkin Head lead the pursuers away, Gloria wiggled her butt vigorously.
“They’re gone.”
Damn it, why did I have to reward this brat?
She stood up and watched as the police’s target crawled out from under the piece of cloth.
Mi Xiaoliu scooted to the side and rubbed her butt, which had been punched just moments ago.
Gloria stroked her chin and waved her phone—already dialed to 110: “Listen up, kid, you need to understand that I can have the police take you away at any moment. Got it?”
Mi Xiaoliu kept her head lowered.
“If you understand, then do me a favor. You have spatial abilities, right?” Gloria narrowed her eyes.
……
North.
The Crow Man stood on a streetlamp, gazing into the distance: “The Feds are coming—sixty… no, seventy-three super-cops.”
“How is that possible? Did someone betray us? Maybe they’re after someone else.” The Clown Girl didn’t believe it.
“Their encirclement route is heading straight for us,” the Crow Man replied. “They’re coming right this way.”
“Let’s find a place to retreat.”
“No good. They’ve already surrounded us—air, ground, underground, all covered.” The Crow Man shook his head. “We’ll have to break through by force.”
The Clown Girl was stunned.
We’re Night Owls from out of town, we haven’t even done anything yet, and we’re not even familiar with you locals—and you send this many people after us?
The local Feds really have no manners at all.
