Volume 4 Chapter 42
by Need_More_SleepVolume 1 + Chapter 42: The Bullied Leah
“You’re back? Was school fun? Lunch will be ready soon, you can…”
Eve opened the door, but what met her eyes was a tearful Leah and a guilt-ridden Qianzhi.
Leah’s old uniform, which had been washed until it was slightly faded, now had several holes in it, along with minor scratches on her snow-white skin.
Beside her, Qianzhi’s delicate face also had scattered scratches, and both children looked utterly miserable.
Eve stared blankly at the two before her, not understanding what had happened to make the two girls look so disheveled.
“Did you… fall down on the way?”
“I’m sorry, Miss Eve, I failed to protect Leah.”
Qianzhi hung her head slightly, her tone carrying self-reproach, and she couldn’t even bring herself to meet Eve’s eyes.
“It’s not Big Sister Qianzhi’s fault, it’s all my problem.”
The two children kept taking the blame for themselves, going back and forth several times, while Eve still didn’t know what they had been through.
Nevertheless, she patiently crouched down, though truthfully, Eve’s pencil skirt wasn’t really suitable for squatting. Given Eve’s already full figure, squatting like this made her feel like her skirt might split at the thighs.
“What happened? Tell me slowly, don’t rush.”
Eve gently patted the two girls’ heads, and the warm touch of her palm gradually calmed their emotions.
“Today those people who always bully me came again. They kept insulting me in different ways. I didn’t want to pay attention to them at first, but they said the mama I found was fake, that she was hired with money.”
“They said even if it was real, she wouldn’t truly care about me, that she only saw value in me.”
“I couldn’t take it, so I got into a fight with them.”
Leah kept her head down, getting more emotional as she spoke, her beautiful big eyes filled with tears of grievance.
She could tolerate those people attacking her — she had heard such vicious words for many years, and hearing them a few more times wouldn’t matter.
But Leah couldn’t allow them to speak ill of Eve, not even one word.
“I’m sorry, I acted too impulsively.”
At the Church Academy, because all the students had high magical attainment, if a real fight broke out, it could potentially wreak havoc on the entire academy.
Therefore, unprovoked fighting was absolutely not allowed, regardless of which side was right, they would each receive fifty lashes first.
Especially now when Leah was in the spotlight, having been publicly criticized for multiple unexplained absences yet still making the outstanding graduate list.
This had already caused quite a bit of dissatisfaction, as everyone knew very well what the outstanding graduate list really meant, aside from a few who truly deserved it.
Outstanding graduate list? More like a daddy’s connection list.
If each outstanding graduate were to give a speech on stage, the least they would say in their acceptance speech would be thanking their Earl father, Marquis uncle, and Count grandfather…
At this point, even the masterpiece “My District Chief Father” would have to step aside.
“Let me see, are you hurt anywhere?”
Eve felt a pang in her heart, understanding clearly why Leah had fought back.
Rather than the fact that she had fought, Eve was obviously more concerned about her physical condition, especially given that from her description, there were likely quite a few people bullying her.
“I’m fine, just my clothes got torn.”
Leah hung her head, mumbling softly.
“What about you, Zhizhi? Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, I didn’t get involved, I just regret that I arrived a step too late. I failed to protect Sister Leah, I’m very sorry.”
Qianzhi also kept her head down, like a child who had done something wrong, unable to meet Eve’s eyes.
“I’m glad you’re both okay. Those bullies went too far. Come on, mama will go with you to find them!”
These bullying brats have really gone too far, having such privileged conditions yet not studying properly, what’s so great about bullying a small girl all day?
And provoking her daughter into a fight, is there no law anymore? If they have the guts, come out and fight Eve one-on-one, Eve wouldn’t mind letting them taste her power of rearranging stars.
Eve certainly knew who was behind this — it must be that dragon-pride protagonist who failed in his schemes.
That dark-hearted dog, while Eve was busy dealing with her precious daughter’s graduation matters and had no time to deal with him, he started stirring up trouble on his own.
“No need to go, those people aren’t at the academy anymore.”
Qianzhi pulled Eve’s sleeve, saying carefully.
“Huh?” Eve was slightly confused.
“I didn’t say Sister Leah didn’t win. Those people, more than ten of them together, were no match for Sister Leah at all. By the time I arrived, they had all been beaten down. It was quite serious, they’ve probably been rushed to the hospital by now.”
Qianzhi looked at Leah, who seemed to want to bury her head in the ground, her little face slightly flushed, looking extremely embarrassed.
“Mama, I’m sorry, I was too angry, so I hit them a bit too hard.”
“Huh?”
Now it was Eve’s turn to be stunned. Come to think of it, Leah was indeed quite strong.
But one person against more than ten…
Though it seemed incredible, Eve was still very happy.
At least Leah was no longer timid and submissive.
“What are you sorry for? You should have done this long ago, give these people a good beating, let’s see who dares to bully you after this!”
Even if Leah hadn’t fought back, Eve would have done it for her.
If Leah could beat up more than ten people when angry to the extreme, with Eve there, the scene would probably be even more brutal, right?
“But, fighting at the Church Academy is wrong. My outstanding graduate position might…”
As Leah spoke, her voice started to break. Not just the outstanding graduate position, even her hard-won graduation opportunity might be taken away.
Leah thought about this and felt extremely regretful, hating herself for not being able to endure a bit more…
But they were insulting her beloved Mama Eve.
“It’s okay, what does that matter? As long as you’re not hurt. I’m here, don’t worry.”
Eve pulled Leah into a loving embrace. Though she had the ability to fight back all along, for so many years she had chosen to endure.
It was clear that she had been listening to Eve’s words very well.
Eve had once told her when sponsoring her that she should study hard and use knowledge to change her fate.
At that time, she was homeless and had nothing.
And Eve’s words had truly been taken to heart.
All these years at the Church Academy, she had never made any mistakes, and even when Eve was serving as the Church’s Cardinal Deacon, no matter how difficult things got, she never actively troubled Eve.
She endured and endured and endured again, all to realize what Eve had told her — to use knowledge to change her fate.
But now, the anger she had suppressed for many years exploded in an instant.
Just because those beasts who bullied her said a few bad words about Eve…
“I just wanted to graduate properly, why do they keep bothering me? Wuuwuu…”
