Chapter 195: Death God’s Gauntlet
by karlmaks“Level 8 Spiritual Source Wielder: Spiritual Source 40/130”
The Death God, a creature on the same level as the Lion-Scorpion Cinder Beast, had provided him with twelve Spiritual Sources in one go.
With the influx of twelve Spiritual Sources, Su Li immediately felt a surge of energy. The wounds on his body began to heal at a visible speed.
Ding Longyun, still shaken, finally rushed over to check on his injuries.
“Are you alright? What was that damn thing?”
“I’m fine. That was another High-Level Undead, called the Death God,” Su Li waved his hand. He looked at the shattered scythe pieces on the ground. A faint light emerged, followed by continuous streams of light particles, all shooting toward his right hand.
Su Li understood. This was the Spiritual Source equipment only acquired from slaying Rare-class beasts.
The Death God was a Rare-class entity among the Undead Race. Killing it yielded Spiritual Source equipment.
Soon, a layer of black substance covered the surface of Su Li’s right hand. The substance was thin as silk, light as air, making it look as though his right hand had been dyed ink-black.
But Su Li knew it was a glove. The glove was so perfectly fitted to his skin that it simply looked like his right hand had been dyed black.
As the black glove appeared on his right hand, Su Li felt a continuous stream of energy being released from it. The energy spread from his right hand to his entire body. He felt a new surge of power developing.
His strength had increased once again.
The glove, astonishingly, boosted his power.
A message surfaced in his mind.
“Name: Death God’s Gauntlet (Right). Ability: Increases strength by 700 jin. Increases defense value by 300 jin.”
Su Li took a deep breath, slowly standing up. He stared at the black Death God’s Gauntlet on his right hand. He was amazed that the glove provided a boost of 700 jin of strength.
His current Base Strength was 1,600 jin. His eight muscle enhancements added 2,100 jin. His two heart enhancements added 200 jin. His bone enhancement added 100 jin. The Seven-Star Bracer added 500 jin. The Blood Ring added 1,000 jin. Now, the Death God’s Gauntlet added another 700 jin. His maximum strength had reached an astonishing 6,200 jin (approx. 3.1 tons or 6,834 pounds).
Furthermore, in the “Demon Muscles” state, he could easily unleash over 10,000 jin of force.
Not only had his strength reached a terrifying level, but his defense offset also surpassed 2,000 jin. In the “Demon Muscles” state, an attack of three to four thousand jin would fail to break his muscle defense.
Seeing Su Li stand up and knowing he was fine, Ding Longyun suddenly remembered something. He immediately turned and bolted toward the stairwell.
Su Li saw his action and followed. The twelve Spiritual Sources had fully healed his injuries in a short time. He was almost completely recovered. He knew why Ding Longyun was running toward the stairwell: after witnessing the terror of the Death God, he knew that the people left behind on the upper floors, save for Qi Mengyu who had a special ability, were likely massacred.
Su Li followed Ding Longyun and quickly reached the 44th floor.
“Rongrong—” Ding Longyun roared, charging into the corridor. He stopped abruptly, trembling violently. The sight before him was deeply bloody.
Zhong Rongrong had been sliced in half at the waist. Blood, mixed with internal organs, flowed across the floor—a horrifying sight.
Zhong Rongrong’s face was contorted, her eyes wide open in a final, agonizing stare.
Su Li also stopped, taking a deep breath.
Ding Longyun slowly knelt, mumbling, “It’s all my fault. It’s all my fault for letting you come up… If I hadn’t let you come up, you wouldn’t have died.”
As he spoke, his hand reached out and stroked Zhong Rongrong’s face, attempting to close her eyes.
He couldn’t bear to look. Although their relationship was brief and based on mutual need, the sight of his recent lover dying so miserably was a profound shock. His eyes were red.
Su Li didn’t know what to say or how to comfort him. He silently turned and looked out the corridor.
The battle below was drawing to a close.
With the three most terrifying Assassins slain, the remaining Undead—the Spewers, Corroders, and Throwers—were not truly frightening. The group could handle them easily, even without Su Li and Ding Longyun.
By the time the remaining Undead had been defeated and fled, two more people had been lost. The total number of deaths in the Gold Eagle One B-Building tonight reached 12 people.
However, the Undead had paid a far heavier price. Including their leader, the Death God, the number of slain High-Level Undead was over 25.
The pouring rain outside gradually lessened. The crowd realized that the horrible, bloody night was finally ending.
The Undead were defeated, with only a few remaining to flee into the water.
Confirming no more Undead were attacking, Gong Xiao, Xu Haishui, Luo Jun, and Xu Xuehui returned to the building.
The cleanup and processing of the corpses would have to wait until tomorrow, left to the logistics team. All those who fought and survived tonight were mentally and physically exhausted, coupled with the profound relief of surviving.
Qi Mengyu and Zhong Rongrong were good friends. Seeing Zhong Rongrong’s body, Qi Mengyu burst into uncontrollable tears.
Ding Longyun did not cry, but his eyes were red. He was silent, staring blankly.
Su Li, Xu Haishui, and Luo Jun helped dispose of Zhong Rongrong’s body. Ding Longyun couldn’t bear to look at the terribly mutilated corpse of his lover.
Soon, Jiang Shuijue, Gu Mingfeng, and Ling Yi arrived on a raft.
Su Li saw them, their clothes bloody and their faces haggard, and knew the A-Building had also been attacked.
Upon inquiry, he learned the fighting in the A-Building was even more brutal than theirs: 19 people had died.
And that was without the Death God appearing in the A-Building.
Su Li highly doubted that if the Death God had appeared in the A-Building, Jiang Shuijue’s group would have survived.
That possibility was entirely plausible.
The A-Building originally had only 36 people. With 19 dead tonight, only 17 remained alive.
Soon, Wu Feng also sent a messenger to report the situation at the Shimao Center and to inquire about the A-Building and B-Building.
The Shimao Center suffered a similar attack to the A-Building, losing 15 people. Spewers, Corroders, Throwers, and Assassins all appeared. Fortunately, the single Death God chose the B-Building and did not appear at the A-Building or the Shimao Center.
Tonight, all three buildings were attacked. The total death toll reached 46 people, and the total population of the Golden Eagle Alliance quickly plummeted to just 89 people.
Su Li smiled wryly. He remembered the Golden Eagle Alliance had 146 people yesterday. They lost eleven people in the daytime hunt and another 46 tonight—a total of 57 people in one day.
The number was shocking.
“I want to move everyone from the A-Building here,” Jiang Shuijue said, her face pale and bloodless. The fight had shaken her. This was the first time she had experienced such a terrifying battle.
With only 17 people remaining in the A-Building, they couldn’t withstand another attack. Jiang Shuijue decided to move everyone to Su Li’s building.
Su Li nodded in agreement.
The B-Building now had 49 people remaining. Adding Jiang Shuijue’s 17 people would bring the total to 66 people. Being together provided safety.
The Death God incident tonight served as a stark warning. The top floor also needed to be guarded by a strong presence.
He knew that if a monster like the Death God appeared again, anyone else guarding the top floor would have been killed.
This Level 9 Rare Beast was simply too powerful.
It was already late. Everyone was exhausted. The moving of people and supplies would have to wait until tomorrow.
Jiang Shuijue refused to return to the A-Building and stayed in the B-Building for the night. She was still reeling from the battle.
Su Li’s apartment had three bedrooms. Besides the master bedroom he occupied, Qi Mengyu occupied the other.
Su Li felt that it was inappropriate for men and women to live in the same apartment, but Qi Mengyu insisted that her main task was to attend to Su Li and clean his apartment, and living together would be more convenient.
Su Li, seeing Qi Mengyu’s insistence, did not strongly object.
Although Qi Mengyu and Su Li had no intimate relationship, the fact that they lived in the same apartment led many to assume she was Su Li’s woman. She was treated with respect, particularly by the logistics staff, who often flattered her.
She enjoyed the feeling of being respected, which was why she insisted on living in Su Li’s apartment.
Jiang Shuijue didn’t want to return to the A-Building for the night. She was informed that there was an empty bedroom in Su Li’s apartment and decided to stay there temporarily.
Gu Mingfeng looked displeased, worrying about Jiang Shuijue’s reputation, but Jiang Shuijue didn’t care about external appearances.
Qi Mengyu harbored a subtle hostility toward Jiang Shuijue’s move-in, feeling her territory was being invaded. She knew she couldn’t compete with Jiang Shuijue’s status, so she kept her displeasure to herself.
Su Li felt frustrated. Outsiders would assume he was living a life of luxury with two women, while in reality, nothing was happening, and the whole situation was annoying.
But he was too exhausted tonight. The death toll had been shocking. He was mentally and physically drained. Seeing Jiang Shuijue’s insistence on staying in the empty room next door, he agreed.
But what completely exasperated him was that Gu Mingfeng, worried about Jiang Shuijue spending the night in Su Li’s apartment, insisted on staying too. He had Ling Yi sleep on the sofa and slept on the floor in the living room himself.
