Chapter 125: Corpse Resurrection
by karlmaksSu Li’s expression was grim. He crossed the Dragon Rhino Sword and sliced out. The already mutilated body of Tao Bingjun was instantly cut into four major pieces, which fell to the floor.
But this time, Su Li wasn’t careless. He turned and dodged the instant he struck.
Sure enough, the moment he dodged and created distance, he saw another Corpse Beast’s body swiftly scramble up behind him. Brown matter extended from its back, once again forming two demon claws.
Ding Longyun shouted, “That guy can resurrect using other corpses! Does that mean he can never be truly killed?”
Sweat beaded on Su Li’s forehead, and he gasped slightly.
He had the Dragon Rhino Sword, and he had killed Tao Bingjun twice consecutively. However, fighting non-stop like this was extremely exhausting. Although he hadn’t activated his “Demon Muscles” state, he couldn’t keep fighting forever. He already felt a hint of fatigue.
Tao Bingjun, who could resurrect, seemed to have no limits on his stamina. Every time he resurrected, his strength returned to its peak. He could continuously resurrect from corpses and eventually wear Su Li down to death.
“Tao Bingjun, no wonder you fled to the roof. Are these corpses your contingency plan?” Su Li looked at the huge pile of corpses on the roof. Most of them were Corpse Beasts, and their bodies were surprisingly intact. The new body he was possessing, for example, only had its skull cap removed; the rest of the body was flawless.
“Heh heh…” Tao Bingjun grinned. “You only rely on the sharpness of your weapon. Otherwise, you’d be no match for me—” He lunged, his pair of demon claws spread wide, attacking Su Li again.
“Corpse Resurrection? Let’s see how you resurrect without a body—” Su Li suddenly roared. He shouted, “I’ll keep him busy! You three quickly destroy or throw all the corpses over the edge! His ability must have a range limit; otherwise, it makes no sense.”
Su Li had observed that the two times Tao Bingjun had revived using a corpse, the bodies were very close by. This could be to seize the opportunity to attack him, but it more strongly suggested that his Corpse Resurrection ability had a limited range.
If there were no range limit, Tao Bingjun wouldn’t have bothered coming all the way to the roof; he would have fought Su Li on the 30th floor. The only possibility was a short range limit, which was why he needed to personally come to the corpse-laden roof.
“Alright!” Hearing Su Li’s command, Gong Xiao immediately sprinted out. She grabbed two corpses on the ground and rushed toward the roof’s edge, intending to throw them over.
Ding Longyun also moved, spitting an “Air Missile” toward a pile of corpses far from the group.
With a thunderous “BOOM,” the pile of corpses was hit. Flesh and blood flew, and the limbs were shredded. The explosion even punched a hole in the roof below.
Xu Xuehui also grabbed two corpses on the ground. She couldn’t destroy the bodies like Ding Longyun, so she intended to throw them off the roof.
The trio’s action clearly panicked Tao Bingjun. He spun around and lunged toward Ding Longyun.
Su Li let out a low growl, accelerating his attacks with the Dragon Rhino Sword. A continuous “clang-clang-clang” forced Tao Bingjun to defend with his demon claws.
“Everyone keep up the effort!” Ding Longyun laughed, seeing Tao Bingjun’s desperation. He knew they had found the fatal weakness. Once the corpses on the roof were gone, Tao Bingjun’s Corpse Resurrection would be useless.
However, the roof was covered with bodies. Ding Longyun had to be careful with the explosion radius of his Air Missile and couldn’t use it carelessly. They ultimately had to rely on the three of them to throw the bodies off, which was no easy task.
Su Li launched a barrage of attacks. Tao Bingjun’s two scaled demon claws were quickly shattered and torn off by the Dragon Rhino Sword. Tao Bingjun suddenly leaped, actively lunging at Su Li’s Dragon Rhino Sword. He opened his hands, aiming for Su Li’s chest and abdomen.
Su Li knew the man wanted to commit suicide and resurrect in another body. His mind raced. He quickly retreated, retracting the Dragon Rhino Sword to avoid the fatal vital areas. He spun the sword and slashed, severing Tao Bingjun’s outstretched arms and then his legs.
Stripped of all his limbs, Tao Bingjun crashed to the ground, shrieking in pain and writhing on the floor, unable to move. Since he was not dead, he couldn’t resurrect again.
“I see. So your Corpse Resurrection has its limitations. You must die first to resurrect.” Su Li stopped, staring at the struggling Tao Bingjun on the ground. He had been stripped of his limbs but was still alive, so he couldn’t switch to another corpse.
“So there’s a way to restrict him?” Ding Longyun looked curious, staring at the fallen Tao Bingjun.
Su Li confirmed, “If I’m not mistaken, as long as he’s not mortally wounded, he won’t die. And as long as he doesn’t die, he can’t switch bodies. He’ll be trapped in this one forever.”
Gong Xiao stopped throwing corpses and walked over. “What should we do with him now?”
Ding Longyun scratched his head. “You’re right. He can resurrect the moment he dies. Should we keep him alive forever? We can’t let him die?”
Tao Bingjun, lying on the ground, stopped struggling. He fixed Su Li with a malevolent glare.
Su Li said, “You said he needs a corpse to resurrect. We just need to take him to a place with no corpses, and then kill him. We don’t need to clear the bodies off the roof anymore.”
Ding Longyun laughed heartily. “Of course! Why didn’t I think of that? That’s a great idea.”
Hearing this, a trace of genuine fear finally appeared deep in Tao Bingjun’s eyes.
Clearly, the method Su Li suggested could truly eliminate him.
Just then, footsteps sounded from the stairwell entrance, and a person walked out.
The person who emerged was Xu Haishui. His face was flushed, unable to hide his excitement and thrill.
Behind him stood a woman.
Su Li looked up. The woman had large, bright eyes, sharp and clear. Her dark hair was long. She was very pretty. She looked shy, her large eyes filled with anxiety, staring fearfully at the group before her.
Seeing Xu Haishui’s excited look, Su Li knew immediately, without an introduction, that this woman was Zhang Ying, the person he was so desperate to save.
Zhang Ying was indeed beautiful, no wonder Xu Haishui was so smitten.
“Everyone, this is Zhang Ying! I found her!” Xu Haishui shouted excitedly the moment he walked out, introducing Zhang Ying to the group.
Zhang Ying remained behind Xu Haishui, seeming fearful of strangers.
“Zhang Ying, this is Brother Su, Brother Ding, Miss Gong, and Miss Xu Xuehui. It’s thanks to everyone that I was able to rescue you this time,” Xu Haishui excitedly introduced the group to Zhang Ying.
“You don’t need to be afraid. They are all very kind people.”
Ding Longyun laughed warmly. “Zhang Ying? Hello, I’m Ding Longyun.” He was always courteous to beautiful women.
“Xu Haishui, you damned little devil—” Tao Bingjun, lying on the ground, limbless and motionless, suddenly spoke, his voice filled with hatred.
Xu Haishui was startled. He recognized Tao Bingjun’s voice but couldn’t recognize the man without limbs.
“Are you Tao Bingjun?” he asked, his voice filled with surprise and uncertainty.
“If it wasn’t for you, how could I be in such a miserable state?” Tao Bingjun glared at Xu Haishui, his face full of resentment.
Su Li looked at Zhang Ying, who was hiding behind Xu Haishui. Her clothes and appearance were neat, and her complexion looked healthy, which was vastly different from what he had imagined.
He had assumed that after so many days of torment, Zhang Ying would be utterly ravaged, if not insane. Yet, she looked nothing like that now.
A thought crossed his mind. Su Li activated the “Peering Rune” to get a look at Zhang Ying.
Just then, Zhang Ying suddenly shrieked, “You’re Tao Bingjun? You animal—” Her face filled with hatred. She lunged fiercely toward the prone Tao Bingjun.
“Stop!” Su Li moved instantly, blocking Zhang Ying’s path. He was too late. Zhang Ying swung her right arm, and a foot-long sharp blade slid out of her sleeve. The blade flew out, carrying a white light, and accurately sliced across Tao Bingjun’s neck, instantly decapitating him.
“I finally killed you myself,” Zhang Ying said with fierce passion.
At the same instant, Su Li peered into her information.
“Level 5 Spiritual Source Wielder, Special Skills: 3, Spiritual Source Technique: 1, Weakness: Unknown, Other: None.”
She was actually a Level 5 Spiritual Source Wielder? Su Li immediately distanced himself from her. He said soberly, “Did you intentionally kill him?”
Zhang Ying said bitterly, “Yes, that animal! I’ve wanted to kill him for a long time! Thank you all. Otherwise, I don’t know when I would have gotten my revenge.”
Ding Longyun and Gong Xiao looked at each other. They had just managed to disarm Tao Bingjun, and now Zhang Ying had impulsively killed him. He would resurrect again. They thought Zhang Ying had acted out of sheer hatred, not realizing Tao Bingjun had the Corpse Resurrection ability. Killing him was an unfortunate mistake, not intentional assistance, as Su Li suggested.
“Heh heh…” Tao Bingjun’s laughter suddenly rang out again. Ding Longyun and Gong Xiao sighed, knowing Tao Bingjun had resurrected. Xu Haishui rushed forward, a look of utter confusion on his face. “Brother Su, is there some misunderstanding? Zhang Ying hates Tao Bingjun so much; how can you say she’s helping him?” He was completely bewildered by Su Li’s accusation.
