Chapter 218: The Final One, Long Tian’ao
by karlmaks“Haha!” The Pink Immortal let out a lewd laugh and, as she pounced on Qin Haoxuan, was about to kiss his lips.
If not now, when? Qin Haoxuan immediately made his decision. He condensed his spiritual sense into a small sword and viciously attacked the Pink Immortal, whose mind was consumed by lust and had no defenses up at all.
Her soul under attack, she let out a tragic scream, her face turning deathly pale as she froze in place. Qin Haoxuan once again activated the Advent of the Ghost God. A fierce ghost immediately shot out from the seal on his arm and, following his will, slammed its fist into her head.
SPLAT!
Like a watermelon being smashed, the Pink Immortal’s head was beaten to a pulp. Red blood and white brain matter splattered all over Qin Haoxuan’s face. Fearing she might still be alive, he immediately commanded the ghost soldier to tear her body to shreds.
If she had been conscious, she could have easily dodged or protected herself with spiritual energy and would have only been seriously injured, not died so tragically. But her spiritual sense had been struck by his, leaving her mind a complete blank.
After kicking her corpse aside, Qin Haoxuan let out a long breath. He never expected her to be interested in him; it had completely caught him off guard. Fortunately, he had managed to kill her at the critical moment. If they had fought head-on, according to her strength as recorded in the diary, it would have been a very tough fight.
Although he had the Formless Sword as a great trump card, each use of it would almost completely drain his body of spiritual energy, at best withering his immortal seedling and at worst killing it outright, which would be the end of him. Therefore, unless it was a critical moment, he would certainly not use it.
After wiping the blood from his face, Xing teased him from the side. “You originally wanted me to seduce her, but it turns out she has no interest in effeminate pretty boys and was interested in you instead! Aigh, you poor thing, you almost lost your chastity.”
Covered in blood, Qin Haoxuan was in no mood to argue. He collected the bag of valuables from her body, found a nearby stream to wash the blood off, and then used his spiritual energy to dry his clothes.
After cleaning himself up, he began to go through her bag. Xing, with a lewd grin, also came over, his eyes shining. “Examining the spoils of war is what I like best! Wahaha, it’s sure to be another great harvest!”
In her bag, Qin Haoxuan found twenty second-grade spirit stones. Adding the fifty from Hua Yang and his own one thousand low-grade stones, he now had a total of eight thousand low-grade spirit stones. He let out a long breath. His shortage of spirit stones was finally resolved.
He also found a Talisman Beast and its control manual. But what surprised him most was a book that looked like a mortal martial arts manual. The Pink Immortal had started as a bandit and had integrated mortal martial arts into her spiritual arts, creating her own unique set of combat techniques. This book recorded all of them, along with many of her insights.
After flipping through it, Qin Haoxuan praised, “This woman was truly formidable. If we had fought her head-on, we might not have been her match. Her self-created techniques are much stronger than the Heaven-Cleaving Slash.”
Xing, however, had no interest in her techniques and was instead staring at her Talisman Beast. “Old Qin,” he said, his eyes glittering, “we’ve killed so many cultivators together, and you’ve taken all the benefits. You should at least share some with me, right? How about… you just give me a Talisman Beast?”
Qin Haoxuan looked at him. What he said did make some sense. “Aren’t you a demon? Can you even control a Talisman Beast?”
“Are you kidding? Although they are a tool of you human cultivators, for a genius demon like me, I can learn the control method with a single look. It’s no problem at all.”
Qin Haoxuan tossed him the Talisman Beast he had just collected. “Then you can have it to play with. Alright, another one down. We can go back.”
Xing was overjoyed. He took the beast and its manual and, following behind Qin Haoxuan, began to read it with a ravenous hunger.
Back in the tent, Xing had already finished the manual and had quickly mastered its operation. Qin Haoxuan took out Xu Changsheng’s diary again. “Two ambushed, now only the last one, Long Tian’ao, is left.”
“There are two left!” Xing immediately refuted him. “Have you forgotten that Hua Yang already sent a message to his master?”
Qin Haoxuan frowned. He had carefully read the entire diary, but there was no mention of the master’s realm or trump cards. It seemed this master was going to be a real problem.
“We can’t worry about that much now,” he said. “That Long Tian’ao is coming tomorrow. We’ll deal with him first.”
Xing thought for a moment. “I’m curious. These rogue cultivators are supporting that King of the Foothills in his rebellion. Even though resources are hard for them to come by, what could a mortal king possibly have that is worth them risking their lives?”
Qin Haoxuan shook his head. “What does it matter if I’m curious? I have no way of finding out.”
Xing chuckled. “Isn’t that simple? That Hua Yang’s master won’t be here so soon. Tomorrow, Long Tian’ao will be the last one to arrive. We can just find a way to capture him and interrogate him.”
“Not interested,” Qin Haoxuan refused without hesitation. “Interrogating him about the rebellion should be the business of my sect’s elders, not a junior like me. Besides, Long Tian’ao is so strong. If we capture him and don’t kill him immediately, and he finds a chance to recover and use some ultimate move on us, or send out a signal to call more rogue cultivators, won’t that be asking for trouble?”
Xing looked at him. If he didn’t agree, there was nothing he could do. And he had a point. He could only suppress his curiosity. “Alright.”
Qin Haoxuan continued to flip through the diary. He didn’t notice the look of admiration in Xing’s eyes. In a situation like this, he was still so cautious and firm, able to completely suppress his curiosity for the sake of survival. He knew this wasn’t cowardice. This kind of person, who was both bold and careful, was the kind who could truly attain the Dao.
Xing took the diary and summarized, “Long Tian’ao is the strongest of them all, at the Seventeenth-Leaf of the Spirit Sprout Realm, and he has that powerful Soul-Summoning Talisman. From Xu Changsheng’s understanding of him, this person is sinister, vicious, and extremely cautious. Although he is greedy for wealth, he would never take a risk for it. And although he is the Pink Immortal’s lover, he is not one to be infatuated with women. Although he has weaknesses, there are none we can exploit. A person like this is basically invulnerable. Dealing with him will be very troublesome.”
Hearing this, Qin Haoxuan gave him a sidelong glance.
“Why are you looking at me like that? You look like you don’t care at all.” Xing was surprised that he could be so calm.
Qin Haoxuan smiled. “Although Long Tian’ao is strong and has no obvious weaknesses, we don’t have to be so troubled.”
“What do you mean?”
“We don’t have to ambush him on the road like the first two. We’ve already killed two of them; now only he is left. We can just wait for the rabbit to come to us. Don’t you know how to transform? You can just turn into one of them and go to greet him. The moment he lets down his guard, we’ll finish him off. How simple is that?”
Xing slapped his forehead, a sudden realization dawning on him. “Yes, why didn’t I think of that? But who should I turn into?”
Qin Haoxuan grinned and looked at him teasingly. “Have you forgotten? That Long Tian’ao and the Pink Immortal have a very ambiguous relationship, like cultivation partners. You just have to turn into that woman.”
“What!” Xing leaped up in a rage. “Turn into a woman? And that slutty woman? Do you know that this is a slander against my demonic integrity?”
Qin Haoxuan teased, “As a good brother, I don’t want to either. If I knew the True Demon Transformation, I would turn into her myself. But I don’t. This arduous task can only be accomplished by you.”
Xing refused decisively. “No, impossible! I cannot do something so lacking in demonic integrity. For a genius demon like me, revered by the masses in the Netherworld, to do such a thing would be a stain on my life. If word got out, I would be laughed to death by the other demons. This is a matter of integrity and dignity; there is no room for discussion!”
Qin Haoxuan sighed. “Alright, as a brother, I can’t force you. Since you’re unwilling to sacrifice your demonic integrity, then I’ll just have to fight him to the death. The Seventeenth-Leaf realm, and that powerful Soul-Summoning Talisman… a direct fight would be a nine-in-ten chance of death for me.”
