Chapter 91: Level 5 Spiritual Source Wielder
by karlmaksNone of them were weak. Having lived through life-and-death situations and various dangers these past few days, all those who survived were far from being kind-hearted.
The bald man’s head had been suddenly severed by Su Li, who was hiding in the dark. Although they were shocked, they didn’t panic and immediately launched a full counterattack.
Su Li, who was relying only on sound to sense them, hadn’t known that Brother Xiang was climbing the exterior wall. Realizing there were only four people in front of him—one person short—his heart leaped. He immediately cursed his luck, spun around, and used “Spider Walk.” Virtual afterimages of legs appeared around his own. His body shot forward, sticking close to the stairwell.
With only four people in front and one missing, the most logical explanation was that the group had split up. The four were coming up the stairs, and the missing person had chosen an alternate route. Furthermore, the missing person was most likely the leader, Brother Xiang.
Brother Xiang was probably scaling the building from another direction. Worried about the safety of Ding Longyun and the two girls on the roof, Su Li dared not delay and sprinted up the stairs at full speed.
His original plan was to hide in the darkness and use his knowledge of the building to ambush them one by one. He would kill one, then feign retreat, lure the others to chase him, and slowly kill them off during the chase. With “Spider Walk,” he could accelerate instantly. This plan had a high chance of success, and he might have been able to handle all five alone without Ding Longyun’s help.
But he hadn’t anticipated that Brother Xiang would sneak up from elsewhere.
Fearing for the safety of the three on the roof, Su Li had to abandon his plan.
“Chase him!” Ni Jianrong screamed, chasing after Su Li with the tattooed man. Xu Haishui hesitated, looking at the bald man’s headless corpse on the floor, then reluctantly braced himself and joined the pursuit.
Su Li ignored the three chasing him. Although he was confident he could kill them, he feared that even if he did, the three on the roof would likely fall victim to Brother Xiang.
From the five men’s conversation, he had gathered that Brother Xiang was not only their leader but also extremely formidable. Ni Jianrong was a Level 4 Spiritual Source Wielder whose skill was certainly not weak, yet he exhibited a fawning deference toward Brother Xiang.
In this cruel, near-apocalyptic world, where systems like money, former power, and social status had collapsed, the only thing that commanded deference and submission was pure strength.
Brother Xiang must possess exceptionally high strength to make the already formidable Ni Jianrong act this way.
Su Li’s reaction was swift. The moment he discovered Brother Xiang’s absence, he instantly turned and charged toward the roof.
The moment he burst out of the roof exit, he heard Ding Longyun’s pained scream and Gong Xiao’s shout.
He saw Brother Xiang smiling broadly, his right arm extended, clenched into a fist. Ding Longyun was sent flying through the air, his chest caved in where the punch landed, and blood gushed from his mouth.
Earlier, when Brother Xiang and Ni Jianrong’s group split up, Brother Xiang climbed the exterior wall like a human gecko. He suddenly appeared on the roof, avoiding the attention of Ding Longyun, Gong Xiao, and Xu Xuehui, startling all three.
He laughed wildly and rushed toward Gong Xiao like a whirlwind, his eyes filled with raw, unconcealed hunger.
In this world, where order and morality had collapsed, freed from the constraints of law, many of humanity’s ugly facets were fully exposed.
Brother Xiang moved quickly. Gong Xiao, recoiling from his predatory gaze, shouted in anger. She did not dodge but gripped her baseball bat, swinging it to counter the charging Brother Xiang.
Ding Longyun’s reaction was also swift. Holding his small axe, he lunged from the other side, hacking at Brother Xiang.
Unexpectedly, Brother Xiang’s charge at Gong Xiao was just a feint. His true target was Ding Longyun. As Ding Longyun rushed in, Brother Xiang suddenly spun around, and his clenched right fist slammed into Ding Longyun’s chest.
Ding Longyun was caught completely off guard. He felt his chest hit by an iron hammer, hearing the crunch of broken ribs. He screamed and was sent flying through the air by Brother Xiang’s punch, blood spraying from his mouth.
The power of that punch was at least over 1,000 jin.
Su Li charged up just in time to witness this moment. He let out a long cry. Afterimages of legs appeared around his body. He grew eight legs like a spider. “Spider Walk” activated. He suddenly accelerated, sprinting toward Brother Xiang.
A flicker of surprise crossed Brother Xiang’s eyes. Su Li’s charging speed was so fast that even he found it dizzying and hard to track. He immediately retreated, trying to put distance between them.
With a “clang,” the machete in Su Li’s hand came down. Brother Xiang failed to completely dodge. He crossed his arms and barely managed to parry the descending machete.
“What?” Su Li was inwardly shocked. Brother Xiang’s arms were like iron. The sharp machete struck his crossed arms, tearing only his sleeve and failing to even pierce his skin.
Seizing the moment of Su Li’s shock, Brother Xiang kicked out. Su Li had no time to dodge. He brought his left arm down to block the kick. With a “thud,” Su Li was sent staggering backward. His left arm felt numb, and the bones felt like they were about to break. This Brother Xiang was an unprecedentedly bizarre opponent whose arms felt like steel.
Just then, Ni Jianrong, Xu Haishui, and the tattooed man rushed out of the stairwell exit behind them.
“Brother Xiang, that’s Su Li! He just killed Old Cui!” Ni Jianrong shouted, his face full of grief and anger. “Old Cui” was the bald man.
A murderous glint flashed in the depths of Brother Xiang’s eyes, but he quickly sneered. “I know. Leave him to me. You deal with the others. Remember, capture the two girls, the big one and the small one, alive.”
“Understood!” Ni Jianrong replied. He and the tattooed man lunged out. Ni Jianrong charged toward the injured Ding Longyun, while the tattooed man headed for Gong Xiao. Xu Haishui hesitated, then ran toward the distant Xu Xuehui.
Brother Xiang pointed at Su Li and laughed wildly. “The fact that you killed Old Cui is indeed remarkable. But I’ll quickly show you that there’s always someone stronger. Don’t worry; I won’t let you die painlessly. I’ll break every bone in your body one by one. Remember my name: Chen Xiangyu. A name you will never forget, haha—”
Chen Xiangyu was arrogant and domineering. He pointed at Su Li, his entire body shaking as his muscles slowly swelled.
The vertical eye-like fine lines appeared in Su Li’s eyes.
He activated the “Peering Rune” to observe Chen Xiangyu’s data.
“Name: Spiritual Source Wielder, Level: 5, Special Skills: Three, Spiritual Source Technique: One, Weakness: Unknown, Other: None.”
