Chapter 86: Spider Walk

Ding Longyun’s axe came down. This time, he struck the functional joint of one of the hind legs. As the axe landed, one of the Spider Queen’s hind legs was severed. Gong Xiao struck at the same moment. Her dagger sliced through the sinew of the other hind leg’s movable joint, severing it.

Losing two more hind legs instantly, the Spider Queen frantically spun around again, trying to attack Gong Xiao and Ding Longyun behind it.

“Run!” Gong Xiao warned Ding Longyun as she severed the leg. The two chose different directions and fled into the distance, refusing to prolong the fight.

The Spider Queen, which had eight legs, had suddenly lost four. Its movement speed was instantly reduced by nearly half. When it finally turned around, it hesitated, unable to decide whether to pursue Ding Longyun, who fled to the left, or Gong Xiao, who fled to the right.

Xu Xuehui, who had retreated far away, watched, her eyes shining. Although she lacked the strength of Su Li and the other two, she wisely chose to stay clear. She watched the three work together with perfect coordination, toying with a powerful Leader-class monster. She couldn’t help but murmur, “So amazing…”

The Spider Queen had just finished its angry turn, ready to chase the fleeing Ding Longyun and Gong Xiao, when Su Li, hiding in the stairwell entrance, struck again. The “Gluttony Fangs” on his left hand extended, slicing across the joint of yet another one of the Spider Queen’s legs, severing it.

Suddenly losing half of its legs, the Spider Queen was visibly unnerved. Its extreme rage gave way to panic. It moved its body, leaving the stairwell entrance, and began to crawl toward the far edge of the roof.

Having lost four legs, the Spider Queen’s movement speed, supported by only the remaining four, had slowed to less than that of Su Li and the others. Su Li would never let it escape. He immediately shot out of the entrance and chased after the Spider Queen.

He knew the opportunity had arrived.

The Spider Queen emitted a sharp hiss. Sensing Su Li closing in, it awkwardly stabilized itself on three remaining legs and lifted one spider leg, fiercely stabbing it toward Su Li.

Su Li proactively charged forward. Just as the spider leg was about to stab him, he shifted his body. The leg narrowly missed, flying past his rear leg, and Su Li was instantly at the Spider Queen’s flank.

Gong Xiao and Ding Longyun, who were fleeing in the distance, halted. Looking back, Gong Xiao stopped immediately, turning to sprint back toward the Spider Queen. Unfortunately, she was a step too late.

Her reaction wasn’t slow; she understood this was a golden opportunity to kill the Spider Queen. No one wanted to miss the kill reward for a Leader-class monster. Unfortunately, she and Ding Longyun were a moment too slow. By the time they turned and sprinted back, Su Li had already struck.

Su Li, closing in on the Spider Queen, pushed off with his feet and leaped into the air. Gripping the machete with both hands, he brought it down heavily.

With a sharp “hiss,” the machete, infused with Su Li’s immense power, sliced across the monster’s blurry human-like face.

The Spider Queen’s face instantly split open, and copious amounts of fluid sprayed out.

A faint, almost inaudible shriek echoed. The colossal Spider Queen immediately froze in place, then convulsed. A massive amount of liquid erupted from the severely wounded face.

Its body slowly sank, its remaining legs contracting.

Gong Xiao and Ding Longyun, who were sprinting back, slowed their pace. Since they couldn’t make it in time, there was no point in fighting for the kill.

Ding Longyun felt the most envy and frustration. Tonight, they had seen an Elite monster and a Leader monster. Gong Xiao killed the Elite and gained a special ability. Now, Su Li killed the Leader and was guaranteed to gain a special ability.

Despite the envy, Ding Longyun wasn’t jealous. Su Li deserved the most credit for killing the Spider Queen. Without him, they couldn’t have defeated it. Therefore, it was right that Su Li received the reward for slaying the monster.

A Spiritual Source appeared and merged into Su Li’s forehead. Su Li took a deep breath. He wasn’t particularly concerned about the Spiritual Source; he was focused on the special ability he was about to acquire.

“Level 4 Spiritual Source Wielder: Spiritual Source 16/50”

Su Li was slightly surprised. Killing a Leader-class monster of the same level had yielded him four Spiritual Sources—double the amount gained from killing an Elite monster of the same level.

“It truly is a Leader-class monster. If Gong Xiao and Brother Ding hadn’t tied it up, it wouldn’t have been easy for me to deal with it alone. It certainly wouldn’t have been this easy.”

Su Li knew that although he was technically the same level as the Spider Queen, his two extra enhancements meant he was effectively stronger than a regular Level 4. Yet, he still felt it would be difficult to handle the Spider Queen alone.

“But, as I gain more special abilities, fighting Leader-class monsters of the same level should become easier and easier.”

Su Li looked at the corpse of the dead Spider Queen. The four severed legs and the four intact legs all began to wither and shrink. Eventually, each of the eight legs condensed into a sphere of white light.

Suddenly, the eight white light spheres shot toward him. Four merged into his right leg, and four merged into his left leg, disappearing from sight.

With eight light spheres merging into his legs, Su Li immediately felt a change in his legs. A message appeared.

“Killed the Spider Queen, acquired the special ability ‘Spider Walk.'”

“Spider Walk, is it?” Su Li sensed the energy in his legs. With a thought, he suddenly charged toward Ding Longyun. Ding Longyun was about to speak but was startled to see blurry afterimages around Su Li’s legs, as if he had suddenly grown eight legs. Su Li accelerated rapidly, leaving a trail of afterimages, circled Ding Longyun, and stopped right behind Gong Xiao.

Gong Xiao was startled and quickly turned around, her face filled with shock.

If Su Li had intended to attack her, she would have been dead.

“What ability is that? It’s terrifying,” Gong Xiao and Ding Longyun exclaimed in shock.

Su Li smiled and said, “Spider Walk. This ability is quite interesting.”

Spider Walk increased his movement speed and agility. Su Li realized the power of this ability in his very first test. It would be formidable in combat.

Gong Xiao looked envious.

“It seems the abilities acquired from killing a Leader-class monster are better than those from an Elite monster.” She believed Su Li’s newly acquired “Spider Walk” was superior to her “Mantis Fist.”

Su Li chuckled. He was in high spirits and felt very satisfied. He looked up at the sky and said, “It’s late. That’s enough hunting for tonight.”
