Chapter 16: The Bathroom
by karlmaksWith a loud “bang,” the giant frog slammed into the sofa. Su Li’s arms shook violently. Unable to hold his ground, he was knocked backward and fell again. The sofa tumbled away, crashing into the wall with a tremendous noise.
Su Li scrambled to his feet and turned to flee toward the other side of the living room.
This monster was not only fast and strong, but its tongue could also strike like a whip. After two consecutive head-on confrontations where he was utterly defeated, Su Li knew that fighting it face-to-face again meant certain death. The only thing he could do was run.
The giant frog shoved the sofa aside, pushed off with its four limbs, and leaped toward Su Li. Su Li spun around and rushed into the bathroom.
The giant frog was only a step behind him. It reached the bathroom doorway, opened its massive mouth, and the blood-red tongue shot out like an arrow once more.
The bathroom entrance was beside the sink and mirror, followed by the toilet, and the shower was at the very end. The layout was a long, narrow rectangle. Su Li chose to rush in here, knowing the giant frog’s immense size, as the narrowness of the bathroom could effectively restrict its movements.
Based on its previous, frantic, and persistent slamming against the security door, even to the point of splitting its head, it was clear this monster was single-minded. Even though it must have sensed that the narrow bathroom would severely limit its actions, it fearlessly squeezed inside anyway.
Its flat body was immediately wedged by the walls as it rushed in. It opened its massive, bloody mouth, attempting to attack Su Li with its tongue.
Su Li had already reached the small bathroom window. He lifted the coffee table he had previously placed upright to block the window, summoned all his strength, and hurled it down onto the giant frog.
The giant frog had squeezed its entire body inside and was trapped by the narrow walls on both sides. Although its body was relatively pliable and not completely stuck, its movement speed was severely hindered. Its tongue struck the oncoming coffee table. Spiderweb-like cracks immediately appeared in the tabletop glass, followed by a crashing “smash,” and the coffee table landed squarely on the giant frog’s head.
The coffee table shattered and flew apart. The giant frog was slammed down heavily onto the floor. It appeared extremely enraged. Gathering its strength, it pushed off with its limbs and leaped up, lunging at Su Li.
However, because it was tightly squeezed between the tiled walls, the speed of its jump and pounce toward Su Li was slow.
Yet, the bathroom was too narrow. With the giant frog fully squeezed in, Su Li had retreated until he was almost pressed against the window at the back. He had no room to dodge and was hit squarely by the pounce.
The impact made Su Li’s chest gasp for air, like being crushed by a heavy weight. He almost spat out blood, but inwardly, he felt a stroke of luck.
Because the giant frog was wedged, it couldn’t build up speed, and the full force of its impact couldn’t be unleashed. Otherwise, with the monster’s strength, a full-speed ram would have broken every bone in his body.
Although Su Li was struck, he wasn’t idle. The hammer had been lost, but he still had the cleaver. He shifted the cleaver from his left hand to his right, gripped it tightly, seized this rare opportunity, and hacked down at the frog’s head.
A spray of fluid erupted. The giant frog suddenly opened its massive, bloody mouth and let out a chilling, desperate “croak,” its body shaking violently as it thrashed madly.
Su Li’s cleaver, swung with all his power, had struck the monster’s gigantic, single eye on its head. The cleaver sank almost completely into the eye, nearly splitting the massive eyeball in two.
Having suffered such a crushing blow, the giant frog instantly became blind. In its panic and madness, it thrashed violently while snapping its massive, bloody mouth aimlessly toward Su Li.
The narrow space of the bathroom restricted the giant frog, but it also restricted Su Li.
Su Li silently groaned. He was pressed against the end of the bathroom and had no room to dodge. He could only fight desperately. He used his left hand to brace the giant frog’s lower jaw, pushing upward to prevent it from using its mouth and tongue to bite and attack him, while his right hand furiously hacked the cleaver into the monster’s belly.
Both sides were fighting for their lives. The giant frog’s strength was originally much greater than Su Li’s, but being squeezed between the two walls prevented it from fully exerting its power. Su Li, however, was not constrained. He hacked the cleaver into the giant frog’s abdomen repeatedly, quickly ripping the monster’s belly open. More and more blood poured out, staining the bathroom floor tiles red.
The giant frog’s attack methods were limited, relying mainly on ramming, biting, and its tongue. Now, wedged between the walls, ramming was useless. Su Li had also maneuvered beneath it and was desperately pushing up on its jaw with his left hand, preventing it from using its mouth and tongue to attack him. Su Li was, however, free to frantically hack the cleaver.
If they hadn’t been confined to this narrow bathroom, the giant frog could have easily shifted its body, and Su Li would have been unable to hold its jaw. But trapped like this, and now blind, the frog was unable to figure out where to move in its fear and frenzy. Its only instinct was to desperately try to bite the enemy in front of it, continually pushing forward. This action wedged itself even tighter and effectively surrendered its most vulnerable area to Su Li, allowing him to endlessly slash at its abdomen.
As he continued to hack away, Su Li soon felt the giant frog’s struggles weaken. Finally, it slowly stopped moving.
Watching it stop moving, its two hind legs stretched out, Su Li finally stopped his attack. He was panting heavily, his whole body exhausted. Leaning against the wall, he slowly slid down into a sitting position.
Blood covered the floor. The giant frog was motionless but remained suspended, wedged in the middle, and hadn’t fallen to the ground.
Su Li sat beneath its belly, recovering from his near-frenzy. The air was thick with the smell of blood. He saw that the giant frog’s belly had been completely sliced open, its internal organs spilling out.
Suddenly, he saw a ball of white fuzz shoot out from the monster’s mangled abdomen, strike his forehead, and then a message flooded his mind.
“Level 1 Spiritual Source Wielder: Spiritual Source 8/10”
Su Li’s heart leaped. Killing one giant frog had given him two Spiritual Sources at once.
At the same instant, his entire body grew hot. A remarkably powerful thermal current enveloped him, surging through his limbs and bones. The fiery pain in his right shoulder began to disappear, the wound was healing, and new strength began to surge into his nearly depleted body.
Su Li’s spirits lifted. He put his hands on the wall and slowly stood up. He leaned against the wedged giant frog’s corpse, intending to push it out of the bathroom, when he suddenly noticed that the massive eyeball in the center of the frog’s head was rapidly withering.
