Chapter 332: You’re Important to Them
by SurroundedbyBooksChen Fei looked at the tsundere Holy Maiden A-Yue and suddenly burst into laughter.
A-Yue instantly felt a sense of foreboding.
“And you call yourself a disciple of a righteous sect? How shameless can you be!”
Chen Fei sneered.
“Shameless? More than your Matriarch Cult, who controls innocent people and forces them to fight?”
A-Yue’s face turned pious and serious.
“Heretic, you don’t understand! The Matriarch is saving all beings. Only through this salvation can we enter paradise!”
Typical. Cultists were lunatics.
But Chen Fei could see—A-Yue was different.
She had no bloodstains on her.
That was one of the reasons he had taken her—
this girl was like a white lotus among a nest of vipers.
It was clear that she was highly valued, especially from how anxious Amu had been.
Chen Fei looked at her coldly and asked:
“If the paradise is so great, why don’t you go there yourself?”
A-Yue froze.
Clearly, the thought had never even crossed her mind.
Chen Fei didn’t push further.
He could’ve used spiritual pressure to extract information, but he had a feeling keeping her might offer unexpected benefits.
Back in Mutuo City
Amu knelt trembling on the ground.
Before her stood a figure completely cloaked in black robes.
“Trash. Even with so many protecting her, you let someone take A-Yue away?”
“You all still have the nerve to live?”
The voice was cold, and with each word, the cultists kneeling on the floor began to shake uncontrollably.
The weaker ones started scratching at themselves in agony as blood welled up from their skin.
Eventually, they collapsed, lifeless.
Amu cried out in fear.
“Elder Yuan, please spare us! We will spare no effort in retrieving Holy Maiden A-Yue!”
Elder Yuan, the black-robed figure, glared at her.
“The Matriarch Patriarch is already clashing with Heaven’s Apex.
If he finds out about this… I won’t be the one punishing you.
Get her back—or we all die.”
“Yes!” Amu immediately nodded in fear.
Thankfully, the Matriarch Cult had spread its web throughout Eastern Pavilion Nation.
As soon as Chen Fei reappeared, they’d be alerted.
“Hmph.”
With a final snort, Elder Yuan’s black robes suddenly burst into flames.
When the fire extinguished, only a charred corpse remained.
Amu stood slowly, eyeing the remains.
“Bury him well.”
Then, she turned toward her subordinates with a frosty gaze.
“You heard him. Notify the other branches.
Send your strongest—get A-Yue back at all costs!”
“But…” someone hesitated.
Seeing Amu’s eyes, they lowered their heads.
“I know what you want to say.
But A-Yue is more important than your current missions.
Tell the others. Let them decide what matters more!”
She waved them off, eyes full of cold killing intent.
Back in the Cave
It was cold—unnaturally cold.
Chen Fei was sure there was something strange about this cave,
but now was not the time to investigate.
“That’s the third group already. Looks like they really value you.”
He narrowed his eyes and sensed outside the cave.
“Of course!” A-Yue started proudly—
but then realized what he was doing and glared at him.
“Tch, you’re just trying to make me talk!”
“Not too dumb… but also not smart,” Chen Fei snorted.
Her importance to the Matriarch Cult was now undeniable.
Which also meant… he was in real danger.
“I wonder if pulling so much fire onto myself will earn me bonus merit points…” Chen Fei mused aloud.
A-Yue looked at him curiously.
But as soon as Chen Fei turned toward her,
she flinched like a frightened rabbit and turned away.
Chen Fei didn’t say anything else.
He had plenty of ways to handle her.
A-Yue’s expression shifted dramatically
when she saw Chen Fei pull out a complete cooking set from his storage ring.
Soon, the cave was filled with the mouthwatering aroma of roasting meat.
Though she tried to hold her composure,
her eyes slowly widened and her stomach growled.
Her face flushed red.
Thankfully, Chen Fei didn’t seem to notice.
She sighed in relief—only to break when the smell intensified.
“Aren’t you afraid someone will find you?” she finally asked.
“What? Worried the cult will catch me?”
Chen Fei chewed contentedly, clearly enjoying himself.
“I hope you die!”
She gritted her teeth.
How could someone who looked so decent be so infuriating?
“Relax.
As long as I don’t want to be found, no one will detect me.
Question is—how long will your cult search before they give up?”
Her face darkened.
She turned her head away from his greasy smile,
but her stomach betrayed her again.
“I’m a nice guy, you know.
You must’ve spent a long time preparing for your plan, right?”
He placed a piece of roasted meat in front of her.
A-Yue sniffed involuntarily.
“Don’t think I’ll tell you anything!
I’m the Holy Maiden of the Matriarch Cult!
I won’t betray us over a bite of meat!”
Chen Fei grinned in admiration.
“Such integrity!
Tsk, tsk…
This is snow valley beast meat from the northern plateaus.”
“They grow fat and tender to survive the cold.
Perfect balance of fat and lean. A real delicacy.”
He smacked his lips, deliberately chewing noisily.
To a hungry person, that sound was pure torture.
Despite her cultivation, hunger gnawed at A-Yue.
After all, even a Heaven-Path cultivator has desires—especially for food.
After a long moment of struggle, A-Yue’s eyes shifted.
“Fine!
I’ll tell you a few things.
But not because of the food!”
She emphasized the last part, clearly trying to save face.
