Chapter 299: Slaying the Eight Ghosts
by SurroundedbyBooksWith Leng Yue leading the way, Chen Fei efficiently cleared out the remaining worms in the blood lake.
A familiar rumbling echoed again.
Instinctively, Chen Fei raised his protective shield, but Leng Yue quickly spoke up:
“Don’t resist! Otherwise, we’ll be dragged even deeper. That’ll only make things worse.”
Though the sensation was bizarre and unsettling, Chen Fei trusted her judgment.
As the putrid, blood-stained waters flooded the space, his vision twisted. When he regained awareness, he was falling—straight through a wall.
Landing with a thud, Chen Fei gave the wall a strange look.
“So… the entire underground palace’s walls are alive?”
“You could say that,” Leng Yue replied with a slight nod.
Chen Fei raised a brow.
“Then what exactly are these monsters? And what happens if we kill one?”
“I’m not entirely sure what they are,” Leng Yue said seriously, “but if they’re killed, the entire secret realm collapses. A spatial storm would swallow everyone inside.”
“That bad? Then this place is basically a ticking time bomb. If someone got desperate and decided to take everyone down with them…”
Chen Fei shook his head at the thought.
Leng Yue smiled faintly.
“You think any random cultivator could kill these monsters? You’d need to be at least Heaven Dao Realm to have a shot. And what Heaven Dao expert is stupid enough to enter a secret realm just to die with others?”
Chen Fei thought about it and had to admit she was right.
He looked around.
“This must be the second level of the underground palace. Everything looks different.”
Leng Yue nodded.
“Probably. But if we want the real treasures, we’ll have to go deeper.”
“More? Seriously?” Chen Fei gave her a reluctant look.
Leng Yue smiled mischievously.
“Maybe… Probably breaking formations or something.”
Then her eyes flicked forward into a dark corridor.
“Looks like we’ve got old friends catching up.”
Chen Fei laughed quietly.
“The ones who were hunting me earlier, huh?”
Sure enough, White Lotus and Eight Ghosts tumbled through a wall—not nearly as gracefully as Chen Fei and Leng Yue.
“Damn it! Ran into a nest of those damn tentacles. Took forever to get free,” White Lotus cursed.
Eight Ghosts clutched his chest, coughing.
“No wonder this is the heart of the Blood Burial Secret Realm… this place is way nastier than we thought. We need to move fast—who knows if Chen Fei’s already inside?”
“He’s definitely here,” White Lotus sneered.
“He provoked us in Tianli City, deliberately stalling so we’d arrive late. Arrogant fool. If we find him, it’ll be perfect—kill him and snatch the treasure. Two birds with one stone.”
“You seem confident,” a voice mocked.
They froze.
White Lotus slowly turned.
Chen Fei stood there, grinning at them with open disdain.
White Lotus took a cautious step back and narrowed her eyes.
“I figured you’d be bold enough to come.”
“I’ve always been bold,” Chen Fei smiled.
“You were looking for me, right? I’m here. What now?”
White Lotus’s expression twisted.
“You’ll find out soon.”
As she spoke, she suddenly exploded with spirit energy and darted backward.
Eight Ghosts cursed under his breath.
“White Lotus! You—!”
“Keep him busy. I’ll deal with him,” her voice echoed as she vanished into the shadows.
Keep Chen Fei busy?
Eight Ghosts had zero confidence in doing that. But with White Lotus already gone, he had no choice.
He grit his teeth and locked eyes with Chen Fei, a fierce gleam flashing within.
“Chen Fei, let’s see what you’ve really got!”
He coughed violently, looking pale and wounded.
In a flash, Chen Fei surged forward, wielding the Wufeng Greatsword.
Eight Ghosts suddenly leapt, flinging the blood he’d coughed up into the air.
The blood twisted and coalesced into shadowy humanoid phantoms, howling as they lunged at Chen Fei.
“Destroy!”
Chen Fei sneered and cleaved with his greatsword.
The phantoms were slashed in half—but they kept coming, unfazed, their bodies continuing to charge forward.
“Palm Thunder!”
Chen Fei didn’t hesitate. With a surge of lightning, he blasted the phantoms.
“Eightfold Demonic Ghosts—Annihilate the Divine Soul! Charge!”
Eight Ghosts shouted his incantation.
The lightning engulfed the phantoms—but strangely, it had no effect.
A smug look spread across Eight Ghosts’ face.
This was his signature technique, passed down from the ancient Nether Yin Sect. Though the ghosts appeared evil and dark, they were actually formed of pure Yang energy. Lightning only strengthened them!
“Chen Fei, you overestimated yourself! Now pay the price!”
Eight Ghosts shifted his stance—the Eightfold Ghosts surged toward Chen Fei’s internal organs.
Chen Fei’s face paled slightly.
Admittedly, this move was more troublesome than he’d expected.
But if Eight Ghosts thought it could truly harm him—that was wishful thinking.
The spirits surged into his body, bypassing the soul and dantian, heading straight for his five viscera and six bowels.
It was an unorthodox and dangerous method—but Chen Fei didn’t panic.
Why?
Because of the Void Heaven Cauldron inside his body.
Sure enough, as the ghosts approached his organs, the cauldron suddenly shuddered.
As though angered, brilliant Dao runes and multicolored divine light flashed across its surface.
Chains of glowing light instantly linked his internal organs and bound the intruding spirits.
In less than a second, it was over.
Chen Fei never even slowed—he surged forward and arrived in front of Eight Ghosts.
“You—?!”
Eight Ghosts’ eyes widened. Chen Fei looked completely fine—his complexion normal, his stride unstoppable.
“Move!”
White Lotus’s urgent voice rang out.
A barrage of white lotus blossoms bloomed before Eight Ghosts, dazzling and beautiful.
But Chen Fei just snorted.
“Now you want to run? Too late.”
The Wufeng Greatsword swept through the lotus flowers, shredding them instantly—and revealing Eight Ghosts’ horrified face behind them.
Without pause, the blade spun, slicing clean across Eight Ghosts’ neck.
He clutched his throat, eyes wide with disbelief, and collapsed to the ground.
Dead.
