Chapter 185: A Small Trap
by SurroundedbyBooksChen Fei tapped his foot on the ground, shooting forward like a shadow as he dashed into the colorful light curtain.
That familiar sensation of entering a secret realm washed over him again. The scene before his eyes blurred momentarily before returning to normal.
Unlike the secret realm in Yellow Mist City, the Xianle Secret Realm was a dazzling world of seven colors. The light curtain from the outside seemed to be a condensed projection of this realm’s true scenery.
Although there were tens of thousands of registered disciples in Tianqing Holy Land, the interior of the Xianle Secret Realm felt incredibly vast and empty.
Chen Fei extended his senses. His spiritual vision was compressed again, though this time only to a thousand meters—not too severe.
Fortunately, he still had his treasure-seeking ability. If even he couldn’t gain anything from this realm, then others could forget about it.
“Oh? Such rich spiritual energy! Over there!” Using his spiritual vision to locate treasures, Chen Fei instantly locked onto a direction and leapt toward the densest concentration of energy.
Not long after he left, a thin figure appeared in the secret realm.
“Xianle Secret Realm!” The man’s eyes lit up with excitement. After confirming that no one was watching, he took a crimson bead from his robe.
“It’s reacting!” The bead flickered, and the man could no longer contain his joy. The corners of his mouth curled into a smile. “From this moment forward, everyone will remember my name—Wang Fang!”
Without hesitation, Wang Fang followed the bead’s guidance and rushed deeper into the secret realm.
…
Chen Fei soon arrived at the spiritual energy hotspot. There, in a patch of lush green grass, a yellow flower bloomed gently in the breeze. Though it looked like a peaceful and beautiful scene, danger lurked beneath the surface.
“A Yellowbone Bloom?” Chen Fei instantly recognized the flower. Knowing what it was, he became cautious.
Yellowbone Bloom was undoubtedly a top-grade spiritual herb. But how could such a rare treasure be left out in the open so carelessly? Clearly, it was bait—an obvious trap.
Beasts were often as intelligent as humans, and cultivators should be well aware of that.
Still, temptation always lured some in.
There were three other cultivators nearby, all observing the flower from a distance just like Chen Fei.
But if they continued to stand around, it would only waste precious time. In the Xianle Secret Realm, time was as valuable as gold.
“Sorry, seniors! This one’s mine!” someone shouted. In a flash of lightning, he shot toward the Yellowbone Bloom.
But just as he neared it, a sudden change occurred.
The ground split open, and a pink tongue shot out from the crack. Before he could even react, it struck him squarely.
“Damn it! Why is there a Riftmouth Toad here—no!” the disciple cried in horror.
Chen Fei was just as shocked. Wasn’t the Xianle Secret Realm supposed to be relatively safe?
The toad’s tongue was its strongest weapon. It wrapped around the disciple and yanked him toward its gaping mouth. The consequences of being swallowed were obvious.
A look of despair flashed in the disciple’s eyes, but then his body radiated seven-colored light and slowly faded away.
Chen Fei was briefly stunned before realizing what had happened. “So that’s the forced life-saving mechanism! Still, that glow must be nourishing to the beasts here.”
Sure enough, the Riftmouth Toad swallowed the rainbow light with obvious satisfaction. Realizing it had been exposed, the beast crawled fully out from the crack in the earth.
Its massive body towered like a hill.
“Crap! Run!”
The remaining disciples bolted immediately.
But the Riftmouth Toad had no intention of letting them go. Its tongue lashed out like a black whip and ensnared one of them.
Chen Fei, however, wasn’t paying attention to the toad. His eyes were locked onto its head.
That wasn’t a Yellowbone Bloom—it was a little growth deliberately shaped to lure prey! A clever ruse by the toad—possibly even a mutation.
The toad, now finished with the others, turned its huge body and locked eyes with Chen Fei.
It was puzzled. Why wasn’t this cultivator running?
It blinked, then suddenly shot its tongue at him.
“Perfect timing! I’ve been wanting some real practice!” Chen Fei smiled calmly. He flipped his hand, and a sword light surged forward.
Thousand Illusion Slash—enhanced with ten times the power!
The sword met the tongue mid-air, producing a loud crash. The Riftmouth Toad leapt back.
Its tongue wasn’t just a weapon—it was a vital organ. Now, it had been sliced clean off!
“Ribbit—! You bastard! You’re dead meat! Ribbit!” the toad bellowed, glaring at Chen Fei with murderous intent. It lunged forward, massive as a falling mountain.
Chen Fei kicked off the ground and rapidly retreated, widening the gap between them.
“No wonder—it’s a Dao-level beast,” he muttered. As the toad lunged again, a flash of light danced in Chen Fei’s eyes. He leapt high into the air.
To the toad, it looked like Chen Fei was diving straight into its open mouth.
Instinctively, it opened wider.
“Here—see if this suits your taste!” Chen Fei grinned.
He infused a Fire Glyph into his sword.
The weapon shattered instantly.
It hurt—after all, this was a top-tier magic weapon worth ten merit tokens! Even in Tianqing Holy Land, that was no small amount. For comparison, a top-grade Tier 3 pill was only worth three tokens.
And yet here he was, using such a treasure as a disposable item!
The toad, unaware of any of that, swallowed the Fire Glyph without hesitation.
Its half-severed tongue lashed out again, trying to catch Chen Fei.
But he tapped the tongue mid-air and vaulted away, widening the gap once more.
By now, the Riftmouth Toad realized it had swallowed something it shouldn’t have—but it was too late.
BOOM!
The explosion of flames shredded its enormous body, filling the area with the rich aroma of roasted meat.
