Chapter 172: Opportunity to Strike It Rich”Several million contribution points?”
by SurroundedbyBooks“Does that mean I’ll be forced to fight endlessly to pay off debt for all the sect disciples in the future?”
Chen Fei was furious. He found this rule utterly ridiculous—it felt like the sect was offering older disciples an excuse to exploit newcomers.
“Everyone goes through this!” Miao Yue responded nonchalantly. “It’s lonely at the top. Who told you to enter the sect already as the personal disciple of an ancestor?”
Chen Fei frowned, unsure of how to respond.
Seeing his reaction, Miao Yue grinned playfully and explained, “Don’t worry too much, son-in-law. While the rules may sound harsh, the sect’s true intention isn’t to exploit newcomers—it’s to temper their character and help them understand that there’s always someone stronger.”
“And there are some limitations to these challenges too. Although anyone can issue a challenge during the initiation period, the difference in cultivation level can’t exceed one major realm! Plus, if you defeat someone of a higher realm, the sect will reward you handsomely!”
“If it ever becomes overwhelming, you don’t have to accept every challenge. You can submit a notice to the sect and avoid fighting anyone above your cultivation level.”
“So, in reality, no one actually ends up in debt for millions of contribution points,” Miao Yue concluded.
Only then did Chen Fei start to see the logic behind the rule. Still, he couldn’t shake off his discomfort. Wasn’t this just forcing people to “admit defeat”?
“A cultivator must know when to bend and when to stand tall,” Miao Yue added, as if reading his thoughts. “If you can’t even bow your head a little now, what will you do when you face enemies from rival sects or evil cultivators in the future? You’ll die without even knowing how.”
“I understand,” Chen Fei muttered helplessly. He knew this was the sect’s way of preparing disciples for the real world, but that didn’t make it easier to accept.
After Miao Yue left, a heavy pressure weighed on Chen Fei. If he had known earlier, maybe he should’ve just accepted the offer to become a guest elder at the Heavenly Firmament Holy Land instead. It would’ve been less troublesome, though the cultivation resources would’ve been fewer.
“Initiation challenge period, huh?”
“If I have enough resources, maybe this isn’t a trap—it’s an opportunity.”
A cunning smile appeared on Chen Fei’s face.
What seemed like a trap for others—a series of endless same-realm duels that could drain them dry—might just be a gold mine for him. With the Void Heaven Cauldron, which allowed him to fully refine and absorb cultivation resources, increasing his power rapidly was within reach.
Without hesitation, Chen Fei threw himself into cultivation.
At the half-step Origin Realm, he needed to make the breakthrough to the full Origin Realm as soon as possible. Admit defeat? Not happening.
“This is a rare opportunity to get rich! A grand welcome gift from the sect—I won’t pass it up!” Chen Fei slowly closed his eyes.
The leap from half-step Origin Realm to full Origin Realm was essentially the transformation of his Origin Body and Origin Embryo.
Using treasures obtained from Long Qingchuang, he began refining them with the Void Heaven Cauldron.
As the cauldron continuously absorbed the treasures’ energies, Chen Fei’s cultivation surged.
Inside his dantian, the cauldron-shaped Origin Body underwent a transformation—from a vortex into a solid form. A golden Void Heaven Cauldron emerged, covered with numerous runic symbols, though only a dozen or so were lit—the rest remained dormant.
With this, Chen Fei officially stepped into the Origin Realm!
Not stopping there, he quickly consumed more resources, reaching the peak of Tier-3 Origin Realm in just one session!
Opening his eyes, he noticed the sky had grown dim.
But he smiled—breaking through to the Origin Realm was a success. The next step was refining and strengthening his Origin Body further.
One issue, however, troubled him: the sect-supplied resources no longer seemed to interest the Void Heaven Cauldron.
“Looks like I’ll need to find other options,” Chen Fei said, shaking his head. But instead of feeling discouraged, his confidence only grew.
Though his cultivation had broken through, it was his martial skills that had seen the biggest leap.
His Thousand Illusion Slash had now reached fifteen times its original power!
“Tier-3 Origin Realm, peak stage,” Chen Fei muttered, staring at his hand, a hint of awe in his voice.
The Holy Land lived up to its name—the density of spiritual energy and the abundance of resources were beyond anything available to rogue cultivators. Even the opportunities for a nominal disciple here far exceeded what outsiders could fight and bleed for.
That was the terror of a powerful sect!
“Son-in-law! Are you awake?” Miao Yue’s voice called out.
Chen Fei smiled and opened the door.
Seeing that he hadn’t fallen into despair over the initiation challenges, Miao Yue couldn’t help but smile. “Congratulations, son-in-law. You’ve already reached the peak of Tier-3 Origin Realm in one afternoon!”
She knew Chen Fei well, yet his speed still shocked her.
But she quickly came to terms with it. After all, could someone who caught her young lady’s eye really be ordinary?
“Has the banquet started? Let’s go!” Chen Fei said with a grin. Then, he activated the Void Heaven Cauldron again. His cultivation, originally at Tier-3 peak, instantly regressed to half-step Origin Realm.
“Son-in-law?” Miao Yue was in the Origin Realm herself, yet even she couldn’t see through what just happened!
Seeing her puzzled expression, Chen Fei chuckled. “Seems like my cultivation-concealing technique works pretty well.”
Usually, such techniques only worked on those at the same level or one rank higher. But with the concealment rune embedded on the Void Heaven Cauldron, the effect was greatly enhanced—even Miao Yue couldn’t detect the truth.
“You’re planning to scam people, aren’t you?” she asked, raising an eyebrow. She’d known him long enough to read between the lines.
Chen Fei grinned. “Nonsense. How could I call it a scam?”
“Su Ran may be missing right now, but don’t forget—we’re her closest people. We can’t let her lose face!” A flash of determination crossed Chen Fei’s eyes.
Miao Yue looked at him again.
Indeed, Chen Fei’s strength still wasn’t much in the Holy Land. To be blunt, even a gatekeeper or servant disciple could rival him.
But his potential… was terrifying.
Taking a deep breath, Chen Fei looked forward. “Let’s go. I want to meet the young talents of the Holy Land!”
Miao Yue, one of the four Holy Maidens and a top contender for inheritor of the sect, had disappeared for a while and returned with newfound strength—now at the Origin Realm.
That alone guaranteed tonight’s banquet would not be peaceful.
And with Chen Fei tagging along—who hadn’t even officially reached the Origin Realm—it was bound to be chaotic!
“Oh right,” Chen Fei suddenly turned to Miao Yue, “If I accept a challenge in advance, are there extra contribution rewards?”
Miao Yue saw the look in his eyes and laughed. “Of course! As long as the other side agrees, the challenge can be activated—and the rewards too!”
Chen Fei’s eyes instantly lit up.
