Chapter 59
by fanqienovelChapter 59: The Mine
Lin Fu’s words stirred countless waves in Zhou Luo’s heart.
A serious expression appeared on his face, his gaze fixed on the other’s back, and his heart sank deeply.
Originally, he had thought that the family’s conflicts would not affect him, and even if they did, it would be nothing more than suppression at most.
But Lin Fu’s few words just now directly shattered Zhou Luo’s illusion.
The main family was not a charity, and that family head, whom he had only met once, was not a benevolent person.
When they realized Zhou Luo might threaten their power, even though he was very useful for family development, it could not stop them from developing a killing intent towards him.
Zhou Luo clearly understood that this trip to the spiritual mine was no longer simple suppression; if possible, he might not even return alive.
Now, he suddenly remembered why the Great Elder had suddenly given him two magical artifacts and even personally presided over his wedding.
It was a statement.
He did not want the main family to harm him.
But why did the Great Elder agree to him going to the spiritual mine? With his influence, couldn’t he have prevented it?
"Is the Great Elder just going to watch?" he couldn’t help but ask.
Lin Fu turned around, looking at him with indifference, and said, "The Great Elder cannot only consider you alone."
Zhou Luo understood.
It must be that the main family offered greater benefits in exchange, forcing the Great Elder to compromise.
His expression turned somewhat unsightly, and his hands clenched into fists involuntarily.
Sure enough, in front of a great family, even though he had shown sufficient potential, he was still insignificant.
Sensing Zhou Luo’s thoughts, Lin Fu softened his voice and said, "There are also the Great Elder’s people at the mine, so you don’t need to care too much. Just focus on alchemy and avoid causing trouble."
Zhou Luo did not respond, only sneering coldly a few times in his heart.
Since the main family was targeting him, how could he avoid it just by not causing trouble?
Anyway, when the time came, he had to rely on himself.
Thinking of this, his right hand unconsciously tightened, hurting the Snow Mountain Spirit Cat.
Meow—
Zhou Luo snapped out of it, stared at it, and said, "Little one, I can still control you, can’t I?"
Although these words were directed at the Snow Mountain Spirit Cat, Lin Fu clearly knew that he was dissatisfied with the Great Elder’s decision.
Lin Fu said nothing.
The new spiritual mine was far from Maple Leaf City, but the flying boat was fast enough, so after half a day, they finally entered the area where the spiritual mine was located.
This was a vast and rugged mountain range, extending for hundreds of miles in all directions, within which dense spiritual light shimmered, covering the sky and earth, emitting holy energy.
This was the Magical Light of the formation constructed by the family.
Through the spiritual formation, one could see the magnificent and grand spiritual mine.
Above the spiritual mine, towering mine entrances coiled like dragons and snakes; the pitch-black openings seemed like dark eyes devouring everything, bottomlessly deep, and faintly, ethereal echoes could be heard.
When approaching the spot where the spiritual light shone, the flying boat landed on the ground.
On the ground stood a newly constructed pavilion.
At the pavilion entrance, over a dozen stern-faced cultivators guarded the place, dressed in Lin Family attire and radiating an extraordinary aura.
Lin Fu took out the family token and entered the inside of the pavilion.
The pavilion had only two floors.
The first floor was a spacious hall. On either side of the hall were rows of closed doors, while in the very center stood a counter.
Lin Fu went to the counter, took out a scroll, and handed it to the middle-aged man behind it.
After checking the scroll, the middle-aged man called out, "Shi Tou."
Shortly after, a simple-looking bald man emerged from a room, jogged to the counter, and said, "Uncle Hui, what is it?"
"The new Pill Master has arrived, and you will be responsible for him," the middle-aged man named Uncle Hui said in a deep voice.
"Got it," the bald man agreed, then looked at Zhou Luo, walked over, and extended his hand saying, "My name is Lin Shi."
"Zhou Luo," Zhou Luo nodded in response and shook the other’s hand.
Since the other had a two-character name, he was most likely from the main family. Even though Zhou Luo held no goodwill toward the main family at that moment, he still maintained proper manners.
"Come on, I’ll take you to see the spiritual mine," Lin Shi broke into a cheerful smile.
Zhou Luo glanced toward Lin Fu.
After briefly saying a few words, Lin Fu spoke no more and directly left.
Only then did Zhou Luo follow Lin Shi into the hall.
Inside the hall, there was a wooden door. Pushing open the wooden door revealed a mountain path, leading to the spiritual mine the family had recently seized.
During their walk, Zhou Luo realized Lin Shi was indeed a member of the main family, but his personality was easygoing and carefree, lacking the pride typical of such status.
He enthusiastically explained the details of the spiritual mine.
The entire spiritual mine was divided into an outer and an inner section.
The outer part referred to the pavilion seen previously, where family guards resided and were responsible for the mine’s security.
The inner part meant the spiritual mine itself.
As the mining had just started, the interior was split into three levels.
The first level was where family disciples with skills stayed, such as Pill Masters, spiritual symbol masters, weapon refiners, and the like.
Zhou Luo would remain on the first level for the next month or so.
As for the second level, it served for storing and processing spiritual stones, while the third level was the actual mining area.
Zhou Luo followed Lin Shi upward along the mountain path and soon saw a huge stone door.
Carved on the door were various mysterious runes and patterns, emitting a soft glow.
There must be an array inscribed onto it. Zhou Luo inadvertently thought.
Before the stone door stood seven to eight lean and powerful guards, their auras robust, guarding the entrance and specifically inspecting those who came and went.
Lin Shi was very familiar with the lead guard; after a quick greeting, they entered inside the stone door.
Passing through the stone door, they faced a vast square bustling with people, surrounded by wooden rooms, with all sorts of chaotic sounds audible.
Human voices, clanging of ironwork, explosions, and so on.
Zhou Luo’s arrival drew others’ notice; a few people nearby silently watched him and whispered.
Lin Shi guided him all the way to the alchemy room.
The alchemy room was empty.
"Old Guang has left, so from now on you’ll be making potions by yourself," Lin Shi stated.
Zhou Luo surveyed the alchemy room; though the room wasn’t large, all the tools were available. Besides that, a bed and some daily necessities lay piled in a corner.
It seemed this would also be his dwelling place going forward.
Indeed, life at the mine could never match the comfort of home.
Lin Shi beside him produced a bamboo scroll and said, "This lists the potions you need to make, all to be completed by tomorrow evening at the latest."
Having said that, he placed the bamboo scroll into Zhou Luo’s hands.
Zhou Luo skimmed through it casually and found there were actually over ten kinds of potions listed.
Though they were all entry-level potions, for one person to brew them and finish by the next night, he’d probably have to work sleeplessly.
He gazed deeply at Lin Shi before him.
But Lin Shi, as if oblivious to his look, rambled on saying, "If you need anything, just tell me anytime; here, take this."
It was a sound transmission talisman, specifically used for voice messaging.
Upon receiving it, Zhou Luo said, "Thank you."
"No need to thank me, it’s only right. Get to work first; call me if anything comes up," Lin Shi laughed softly and then left the room.
Watching the other depart, a layer of coldness surfaced in Zhou Luo’s eyes.
It seemed the suppression from the main family had already started.
As for whether Lin Shi was genuinely as kind-hearted as he seemed, it still required further observation.
