Chapter 465
by fanqienovelChapter 465: Making an Entrance, It Must Be Impressive!
When a creature at the top of the food chain made an entrance, it had to be impressive.
Trilobite’s entrance certainly made an impression!
“Grrr…”
A deep roar, like rolling thunder, spread across the water surface, and the high-frequency vibrations sent small droplets flying.
“Boom… boom… boom…”
With each of his footsteps, the earth trembled, and the shallow waters churned.
The king of this swamp—the Saber-toothed Beautiful Nodosaurus—had arrived!
Of course, if Trilobite had been hunting, that would have been foolish.
He would have scared all the prey away.
However, if he was defending his territory, warning off outside predators to leave quickly, that was a different matter.
“At this moment, the owner of the territory had to show his great power and make his opponent feel small.”
“Make them back off!”
“Now was not the best time for hunting.”
Trilobite did not wish to hunt.
The reason was simple: he felt a bit scared.
“This…”
“There were indeed too many ‘Dream Beach Crocodiles’ after the island grew larger.”
“These things were quite tough to handle.”
The original Dream Beach Crocodile was not scary—small creatures of two to three meters that Trilobite could easily gobble up.
But the current “giant Dream Beach Crocodile” was a different story.
At five meters long, though smaller than Trilobite, its thick limbs and jaw from growing larger showed it weighed about fifty to sixty percent of Trilobite’s weight.
This gap was like a spotted hyena versus a leopard.
In a one-on-one fight, Trilobite could surely win; against two, his dinosaur order edge let him finish them all; but against three, he could only chase them off without killing them.
But right then…
At least one against eight!
No way!
Of course, Trilobite was not alone.
At least the Haisigen Toothfish could battle beside him in this water.
But the water was too shallow, and the Haisigen Toothfish couldn’t move well; in the muddy shallows, they were even beaten by “Dream Beach Crocodiles” smaller than them.
So, Trilobite came up with a plan: “shock,” “kill,” and “drive out.”
The first step was intimidation.
The second step was slaughter!
Kill the chicken to scare the monkeys!
“Whoosh—!”
Trilobite exhaled forcefully through his nostrils.
He glared at the nearest Dream Beach Crocodile—stunned by his appearance and momentarily frozen.
“Was it you, punk… trying to tear my card!?”
“How dare you!”
For predators that strayed into his territory without causing major trouble, especially troublesome ones, Trilobite might let them leave willingly.
Being sensible benefited everyone.
No one enjoyed getting hurt.
But for those reckless enough to harm his spawn…
Trilobite showed no mercy—he charged straight into battle!
“Roar!”
His giant jaws lunged forward, biting fiercely into the “Devoted One” who’d been gawking at him moments earlier.
“Crunch…”
This time, Trilobite didn’t use his saber teeth. Instead, he clamped the creature’s skull firmly with his side teeth.
“Ha—ssss—!”
The Dream Beach Crocodile thrashed, jaws gaping in a raspy hiss.
Lizard-like creatures, Birds excepted, rarely vocalize well—at least within human hearing range.
The grating hiss annoyed Trilobite. He bit down harder!
The crocodile kept kicking, webbed claws scraping uselessly. Though fairly sharp and long-limbed, it was helpless against Trilobite—a dinosaur.
Trilobite’s tall, upright stance held the creature aloft, its claws swiping only air, far from his own body.
Struggle as it might, escape was impossible.
“Crack—!”
His giant jaws crushed down.
The skull shattered!
The violently thrashing limbs stilled, hanging limp—only twitching now in reflexive spasms.
“Thud—!”
The Saber-toothed Beautiful Nodosaurus opened his jaws. The dead Dream Beach Crocodile dropped into the muddy water with a murky splash.
“Bang!”
His strong thighs stomped on the body of the Dream Beach Crocodile, and he leaned forward!
“I have claimed this Dream Beach Crocodile!”
“What about you all!?”
“Roar—!”
Trilobite opened his mouth, letting out a deep yet clear roar that rolled like thunder across the entire swamp!
Within his blood-red jaws, two saber teeth gleamed coldly.
Though the calcite compound eyes showed no expression, this inorganic, emotionless state made the giant dragon before them seem like a killing machine!
“Gah…”
“Ah…”
The Dream Beach Crocodiles, who had held the upper hand against the Haisigen Toothfish, cried out in panic and backed away.
Fear flashed in their eyes.
These former “small island recluses” might have been strong, but their long, isolated lives meant they rarely saw the world and lacked experience dealing with sudden trouble.
Earlier, when facing the Ether Dragon in easy times, they could still fight a bit.
But now, with their companions killed right before their eyes, almost instantly…
The roaring and saber teeth shook their souls, and fear gripped them.
“Roar—!”
“Run!”
Finally, the first Dream Beach Crocodile turned and fled.
Its move acted like a signal.
One by one, the others escaped, and soon, none remained near Themis.
“Phew…”
“Did I scare them off?”
“Just bullies who pick on the weak.”
“But picking on the weak is nature’s way, right?”
“Still…”
Watching the fleeing Dream Beach Crocodiles swim swiftly through the muddy swamp, Trilobite sank into dark thoughts.
“Things were getting bad.”
“Dream Beach Crocodiles shouldn’t be deep in the swamp.”
“They belonged on islands, or at least near tidal flats.”
“But now they were moving deeper in.”
“That could only mean…”
The ocean was steadily advancing, and likely, the islands and flats where these Dream Beach Crocodiles once lived were drowned by the sea.
As creatures not fully suited to the ocean environment, they had no choice but to migrate to the swamp, trying to find a spot in this new land.
“It looked grim.”
“I needed to work faster.”
“Oh, right!”
Trilobite looked down at the “worm.”
She should be the card he needed to draw.
“Hmm, you must be…”
