Chapter 300
by fanqienovelChapter 300: Something Feels Off
Yuan Qi suddenly remembered something and cast a spell toward Feng Rong’s direction.
In the next moment, Feng Rong sprang up like a cannonball, charging forward. “I’ll slaughter that demon fox!”
“Wait!” You You grabbed his arm. “What are you doing?”
“Let go!” Feng Rong struggled, his rage intensifying. “Are you still protecting that filthy fox?”
“What fox?” You You blinked in confusion.
“Don’t lie to me!” He practically crackled with fury. “You kissed her right in front of me! Release me—I’ll end her!” Had Yuan Qi not immobilized him earlier, he’d have reduced the entire demon city to ashes.
You You finally realized he meant the city lord. “Stop overreacting—it was an accident!”
“What accident?!” Feng Rong’s feathers bristled. “Why don’t *we* ever have ‘accidents’ like that?” His gaze sharpened as he suddenly seized her face, scrubbing her cheek aggressively as if erasing contamination. The more he rubbed, the redder his eyes grew—he’d barely kissed her a few times himself!
“Feng Rong…” You You squirmed but persisted, “It *was* an accident! She bumped into *me*—I didn’t kiss her!”
“Doesn’t matter!” Dissatisfied, he gripped her face and lunged for a kiss.
“Hey!” You You slapped a hand over his mouth, shoving him back. “What’s wrong with you?!”
“Why?!” Feng Rong’s voice cracked with grievance, heart shattered. “The fox can kiss you, but I can’t?!”
“That’s not—” Since when did kisses have species quotas?!
As Feng Rong spiraled into incoherent rage, Yuan Qi tactfully interjected, “You You, did you learn anything from the city lord earlier?”
You You snapped to attention, lowering Feng Rong’s hand. “Yes! The ‘Heaven’ volume of the Yin volume is Gong Xi’s bracelet!”
Yuan Qi stiffened. Even Feng Rong paused. “You’re certain?”
“Yes!” You You nodded. “That’s why I pulled her from the formation. But when I asked for the bracelet as thanks, she refused.”
“Do you think…” Yuan Qi frowned, “she knows it’s the ‘Upper’ volume?”
“Not sure.” You You frowned. If Gong Xi recognized its value, refusing made sense—but why invite them to stay instead of negotiating or expelling them?
“She knows our goal now,” Yuan Qi agreed. “We must proceed cautiously.”
“Why complicate things?” Feng Rong growled, flames flickering in his palms. “If she won’t surrender it, we fight. Either way, I’ll roast that fox.”
“Unwise.” Yuan Qi shook his head. “We’ve only found one volume. Alerting the Demon Realm to our presence risks everything.”
You You nodded—half the puzzle remained missing.
Feng Rong clenched his fists but added, “Then stay away from that fox!”
“What fox?” You You finally asked.
“The city lord’s true form,” Yuan Qi explained. “A nine-tailed Celestial Fox.”
“Celestial Fox? So she’s Divine Clan?”
“Formerly.” Yuan Qi sighed. “Though she’s now a demon fox. The Celestial Foxes were Divine Clan, unlike other fox branches.”
You You recalled Gong Xi’s earlier remarks. “She mentioned a feud with the Long Clan?”
“Indeed.” Yuan Qi nodded. “The Divine Realm’s fall corrupted more than dragons. Her words suggest the Bone Dragon’s rise as Demon King involved hidden schemes.”
“Foxes deceive best,” Feng Rong sneered. He gripped You You’s palm. “Stay away from her. Promise me.”
“Okay!”
You You agreed solemnly. Then…
Gong Xi summoned her the next day.
“……”
Expecting demands or combat, You You found herself invited to…tea?
In a serene courtyard, Gong Xi initially ignored her. Gradually, they exchanged idle chatter—weather, moon, everything but the bracelet. Mentioning it earned abrupt dismissals.
Yet Gong Xi kept summoning her: tea, moon-viewing, music, shopping, city tours… Within days, they’d explored all of Chiyu City. Gong Xi progressed from coldness to clutching her hand, rambling for hours while gazing dreamily.
You You suspected friendship—but no bracelet offers came.
On the seventh day, You You tried again. Gong Xi finally mumbled, face flushed, “I…might grant you a chance to stay by my side. Return tomorrow for your reward.”
She shooed You You out.
Baffled, You You pondered:
*Something feels off…*
