Chapter 253
by fanqienovelChapter 253: Annihilation
The Black Bats repeated their tactic with rocket-propelled projectiles and the gunner’s Pursuer skill.
This was their ultimate take action and only choice now.
If they used cannons, even the Black Bats – far superior to regular Vanguard ships – couldn’t possibly aim at Midi. The Vanguard ships’ turning speed paled compared to Midi’s flying velocity.
Only rockets could barely track that brilliant rainbow light.
But Midi using the Awakened Secret Technique "Sky Sword Dance" differed completely from when he’d hidden his trump card while evading with ordinary Vanguard ships.
Drawing the "Sun" longsword from his waist, Midi channeled the Dragon Sealing Sword’s power through dozens of air-slashing strikes. Crescent-shaped sword lights cascaded from the blade like water ripples, instantly slicing through the dark rockets.
Struck rockets exploded violently, chain reactions engulfing remaining survivors.
The second rocket wave fared worse – before forming any proper encirclement, Midi shattered key projectiles and casually flew through the gaps.
As for the third wave…
Idak never got to launch it. Midi had already reached the Black Bat squadron.
These advanced ships boasting superior speed, turning, acceleration and durability crumbled before Midi’s crimson glow like glass ornaments.
Each crimson pulse erased multiple Black Bats in firebursts. His sword’s long-range attacks prevented any escape attempts – fleeing ships got targeted first, while resisters barely lasted moments longer.
But only moments.
Within one minute, twenty Black Bats – products of Rothschild Guild’s wealth and Idak’s technical efforts – vanished completely. Only the commander’s ship remained hovering.
Idak’s Vanguard ship.
Blinded by anger, the level 58 awakened gunner glared bloodshot-eyed at Midi. Had gazes could kill, Midi would’ve died hundreds over.
"Rockets paired with Pursuer showed ingenuity. Pity you forgot I too can apply skills to mechanics." Midi commented dispassionately, like an adult grading a child’s failed test.
The condescension provoked Idak’s roar.
Midi simply raised his right hand. The "Sun" blade carved a bright arc downward.
With glass-like shattering, the final Black Bat split in two, plunging toward the Sea of Clouds like snapped toy.
Yet Idak leapt out, mechanical wings snapping open!
The black draconic-scale wings with golden framework whirred to life via backpack engine. Executing an evasive flip, he aimed his hand cannon and fired!
Gunner skill – Charged Laser Cannon!
These emergency wings lacked combat abilities, meant only for slow escape flights. Idak sought no real battle – just one desperate strike during Midi’s moment of inattention.
"Die!!"
His roar accompanied a thick white beam lancing toward Midi’s face.
But Midi’s reaction speed prevailed. Crossing the "Sun" and "Moon" swords before his chest, he slashed a fierce X-shaped strike through the air.
Demon Swordman skill – Cross Slash.
Sword edges met lightbeam perfectly. Sparks exploded as the laser deflected wildly into empty sky, leaving Midi completely untouched.
Originally, the Demon Swordman’s Cross Slash technique could slice bullets and shells, but deflecting lasers—especially charged ones—should’ve been impossible.
Yet Midi’s dual swords "Sun" and "Moon" held unique properties. Forged from pure light elements as former weapons of Lord Segarth of the Light City, they naturally resisted laser attacks. Wielding these Lightsabers allowed Midi to physically cut through beams of concentrated light.
With even his final ambush failing, Idak’s face turned deathly pale.
"Did you think I’d miss the jet engines on your back? Or the growing magic wave in your hands?" Midi shook his head coldly, gaze tinged with contempt. "Your real weakness wasn’t lack of power, but relying on others’ mistakes instead of fighting fairly."
Truth be told, Idak ranked among the Sea of Clouds’ finest. His command skills built the elite Black Bat squadron, while his mechanical ingenuity created both life-saving wings and rocket-guided Pursuer techniques—enough to cement his name in aerial combat history.
Had he loyally protected Victoria instead of scheming, he might’ve earned her favor and a position in Rothschild Guild.
But his hunger for quick victories and deep-rooted cowardice led him to betrayal. Though holding every advantage, he’d chosen underhanded methods… and provoked Midi the Killing God.
A golden-red glow flashed. Midi appeared before Idak instantly.
The swordsman flipped his blade, smashing the hilt into Idak’s stomach. The traitor collapsed unconscious, only kept from plummeting by Midi gripping his collar like a ragdoll.
This mercy stemmed not from compassion. Midi’s will remained unshaken by mortal affairs—especially for a desire-driven betrayer. But Idak still held value…
Perhaps as apology gift to a certain betrayed lady.
Transforming into golden-red light, Midi streaked through the clouds toward the Narwhal, abandoning Captain Domon’s Vanguard ships.
The large Skyships’ main cannons proved useless against his speed. Without matching combatants aboard, all eight vessels—six Arrow Fish and two Tiger Sharks—had one option:
Full-speed retreat.
By time Midi landed on Narwhal’s deck, guards had fled. Escapees scattered like startled fish, Tiger Sharks severing restraint cables in their haste.
Midi wouldn’t let them leave unscathed. Though unable to destroy all eight, one example would suffice.
He dumped Idak on deck and soared again. Minutes later, golden-red slashes pierced the nearest Tiger Shark—engine room ruptured, gunpowder ignited, hull split by a kilometer-long Overlord Slash.
The fireworks of shattered Skyship and lives left friend and foe alike speechless.
