Volume 1 Chapter 618
by post_apiChapter 618: Is There Something Strange About a Person’s Task?
"Heir Number One, current task progress: 3%, not completed."
"Task objective: Eliminate the out-of-control wandering spirits in the area."
Lolth looked at the two lines of somewhat brief text appearing on the screen and fell into a bit of thought.
"Eliminate the out-of-control wandering spirits…"
With the image in mind, she could easily figure out what this task was.
Around that blurred figure, there were many semi-transparent spirit bodies.
They were probably native species within this Divine Kingdom, including some undead beings that seemed to have mutated due to the fall of the gods.
They weren’t very strong, mostly at ordinary level or Elite Level, and the strongest were just barely extraordinary.
Although the screen had poor quality and low resolution, Lolth could still feel the magical fluctuations in real-time, defying the rules of magic.
The methods of the gods indeed surprised Lolth a little.
"Though this is a first-stage task, it does seem a bit too easy."
She wasn’t sure if it was Dorothy doing this task, but whether it was Dorothy, Patricia, or a passerby from The Church of Light, Lolth didn’t want any of them to receive the legacy of the evil god.
As for not completing the task, it seemed there were penalties…
But Lolth was confident she could handle the punishment that the unclaimed Divine Kingdom would impose.
Even if the punishment from the gods came down personally, she might not be very afraid!
The curse from the Hell Demon God took some effort to deal with, but it was still resolved.
Moreover, it seemed she now had a significant "authority."
As long as she discovered and confirmed Dorothy’s identity, she could just take her away.
Therefore, she did not hesitate and decisively chose to raise the difficulty.
Lolth reached out and touched the "image" in front of her, suddenly feeling something strange.
It was as if everything within the image was all under her control.
"Is this the feeling of a god visiting their own realm?"
Even Lolth had a moment of losing focus.
The feeling that life and death are in one’s own thoughts, the supreme "power" that comes with it, is indeed enough to make one intoxicated.
Even if one struggles to gain the ability to resist the divine under the realm of deities, whether it is through the Magic Cube, the Three Inch Divine Kingdom, or the God’s Domain accessed by Divine Artifacts, such a feeling is ultimately absent.
She had experienced this feeling once before in Five Colors, but… Five Colors is still not a true deity, and the Ruins of Sand never actually became a Divine Kingdom.
Her control over that half-plane was ultimately achieved with "the technology of the Ailuo race."
Like the Three Inch Divine Kingdom created by the Magic Cube, it relies on external things to "step into" or "mimic" the authority of deities.
It cannot be considered as truly becoming a god.
However, despite the different feelings, Lolth still had some resistance.
After a brief moment of intoxication, she quickly focused her mind and began to do what she needed to do.
She called upon the abundant magic in this realm, filled with the essence of death, and infused it into those "lost souls."
Although these wandering spirits seemed to be truly "out of control," Lolth could not control them, yet she was still able to absorb the same source of power.
Soon, the strength of these wandering spirits all rose to a higher level—an epic one filled with many extraordinary and elite beings.
Although Patricia should still be able to handle it easily, if it were Dorothy, she would probably struggle.
Since the other party had not yet come into contact with the wandering spirits and was still on their way, Lolth temporarily turned her attention to the second individual.
"Second heir, current task progress: 11%, incomplete."
"Task objective: Collect the scattered ‘soul shards’ to nourish the ‘stone tablet.’"
The second heir was standing in front of a huge gray-green stone tablet, wrapped in chains.
The stone tablet was dim and, like the palace here, was mostly damaged, surrounded by many glowing orbs floating in the air.
A blurry figure worked hard to push each of these glowing orbs toward the stone tablet with the same concealed magic.
Although it looked simple, Lolth could understand it with a little perception.
This one was a bit harder than the first task.
These light orbs seemed to have a strong rejection to magic, requiring a continuous output of level six or seven magic power to move them.
According to the principle of "fairness," if the first task was for Dorothy, then this one should be for Patricia.
Even if it wasn’t Patricia, at least it should be an epic being who could do it.
However, if the first task increased in difficulty, the second one naturally had to be harder too.
Lolth slightly disrupted the magic environment here.
The chaotic and restless death magic would actively erode this shadow’s soul and life, and also interfere with this person’s magic to push those light orbs of "soul fragments."
After disrupting it to a certain extent, she naturally received a message—the levels were now equal.
So Lolth stopped disturbing this place and looked at the third scene.
It was hard to judge the difficulty of the events happening to the guy in the third scene for now.
"Heir Number One, current task progress: 1%, not completed."
"Task objective: Find the missing ‘Artificial Soul experiment sample.’"
This task objective made the corners of Lolth’s mouth twitch slightly.
"Artificial Soul experiment sample…"
She repeated it, feeling that things were becoming more and more strange.
If this guy really found that "Artificial Soul experiment sample," she would have to see what it really was.
As for increasing the difficulty, Lolth just recreated her previous actions, making the magic environment a little chaotic.
After all, this task was about "finding something"… Besides using magic, Lolth couldn’t think of any good ideas.
She couldn’t just strike this person with a punishment, could she?
Although it seemed unlikely… what if it was Dorothy?
So, Lolth decided to be careful.
She turned her gaze to the last image.
"Heir Number One, current task progress: 57%, not completed."
"Task objective: Collect the shattered ‘Soul Pearl,’ ‘Revival Gold,’ ‘Tears of the Underworld,’ ‘Soul-Binding Thread,’ ‘Pale Flame,’ reforge the ‘Crown of the Forgotten,’ and defeat the accompanying vengeful spirit of the ‘Crown of the Forgotten.’"
"What on earth… how did I get more than halfway done?"
"And this task description… is the difficulty really different from others?"
Lolth looked at the image.
In a winding river filled with the scent of death, a blurry figure was fiercely attacking a bony dragon covered in armor.
