Volume 1 Chapter 529
by post_apiChapter 529: The Witch’s Hut, Magic Potion, and Candy
Although Lolth couldn’t help but inquire about the identity of the other person, upon careful consideration, she could deduce some clues about who they might be.
A dark cloak, chaotic magic…
Once again lurking in the forbidden area of South Sotua.
This individual is very likely a "witch."
Using Shadow Magic and somewhat "negative" magic, or possessing unregistered abilities from the hellish side…
Any female is commonly referred to as a witch.
Thousands of years ago, in the southern part of the mainland plane, dozens of "Witch Associations" were active here.
Later, with the official suppression from South Sotua and the joint "witch hunt" actions of many churches, these people went into hiding.
From the fragments of history, Lolth could see that most of these individuals were not good people. They used humans and other wise creatures to make Magic Potions, enchanted villagers with spells, and spread disease and fear… these were common actions.
But their disappearance was not because the Church of the Good Gods and the South Sotua officials were "just."
It was simply that the nobles and rulers who supported them had collapsed.
Along with that, even many who had not done evil deeds, and were not considered "witches," were labeled as witches, blasphemers, and sorceresses and were "purified" during that century-long campaign against dissenters.
The southern part of the mainland was even more dirty and filthy than other places, openly displayed in front of everyone.
This person was probably a witch who had survived that tragic event many years ago.
This explains why she held so much hostility towards herself…
Because she carried the aura of the Church of Light, dressed like a priest of the Church of Light, and used the power of Holy Light…
Wasn’t she a priest of the Church of Light?
Back in the day, the Church of Light was the main force in the "witch hunt"—their teachings determined that they were the most active in these matters, definitely the Church of Light, the most exclusive group with the strongest backing.
The major churches of the righteous gods, like the Goddess of Winter, the God of War, and the God of Earth and Abundance… all have their own influence in various countries, but at most, they are just officially recognized churches with their main areas of activity.
Only the Church of Light occupies an entire empire.
Holy Lieto Empire… the word "holy" comes first, and even the emperor must go to the Papal State within the empire to be crowned, not in his own palace.
If the person attacking her now is a witch…
Lolth is not surprised at all by the expression on the woman’s face that seems to want to kill her.
The Church of Light really does have a deep grudge against her.
But what Lolth does not quite understand is…
The words that were shouted.
It always feels like it is not just aimed at a single enemy.
"You dare to come back!"
It feels like she is speaking to someone she knows!
It was as if she mistook Lolth for the one who betrayed her.
"Bang!"
In that fleeting moment of contemplation, the arm shielding her face was struck twice by the broom.
The might of the Holy Domain was indeed formidable; it shredded the sleeves of Lolth’s priestly robe into ragged strips.
Upon her delicate, pale arms, streaks of blood began to appear.
Regardless of whom the other person mistook her for, Lolth’s immediate priority was to dispel this misunderstanding.
"Wait, wait—sister, you’ve got the wrong person!"
Lolth cried out, clutching the broomstick with a firm grip.
She then swiftly dissipated all traces of Holy Light emanating from her body.
Her sharp horns and tail emerged into view.
"I am not a priestess of The Church of Light; I am an Abyssal Demon,"
Lolth declared, her expression one of innocence as she gazed at the bewildered witch before her, hastily scrambling to her feet.
As Lolth pointed at herself, the girl stood momentarily stunned, then abruptly erupted into a nervous laugh.
"Ah ha—ah hahahahaha!"
She burst into laughter, pointing the end of the broom at Lolth, doubling over as she clutched her stomach.
Yet, Lolth sensed no joy in her laughter.
Instead, it carried a tinge of sorrow.
Even without the innate abilities of the Succubus clan, this sentiment was palpable.
"At this juncture, do you still intend to deceive me?"
"Do you think I’ve lost my mind? Do you believe I’ve forgotten everything?"
She glared at Lolth, her teeth clenched, articulating each word with precision.
"I know full well you’re an Abyssal Demon; your presence is etched in my memory."
As she spoke, two trails of tears meandered down her slightly soiled cheeks.
"And that wretched woman, and this tattered whip of yours—you both… turtle eggs, do you have any idea how long I’ve waited here?"
The girl’s voice rose to a near scream.
"I waited… I waited…"
At this, she suddenly fell silent.
Then, with a forceful motion, she hurled the broom to the ground.
"I can’t even remember how long I’ve waited, damn it!!!"
Her cries grew even more desperate.
"You made me open a portal—just to save her!"
"I opened it, I did as you instructed… You promised that after finding her, you’d take me with you!"
"I did as you said—I truly did!"
The girl, now agitated, clutched the broom and began to pace restlessly.
"I just wanted to follow you, I just wanted to leave this place… I used forbidden power, and if I stay here, the people from The Church of Light will kill me! I didn’t tell you… I thought you knew…"
"I opened the door… to let you go find her… I was attacked by the power of the Dimensional Barrier… I didn’t say it, I didn’t tell you…"
"I thought you were dead, I was still worried about you, I was still making excuses for you…"
At this point, she began to sob again.
Lolth understood what she was saying.
She finally realized what was happening to the girl’s shattered domain, magic, and soul.
This girl…
She had forcefully opened an interdimensional channel, disrupted by the power between the worlds…
It recoiled.
That must have been excruciating.
Lolth saw how desperate she looked and could piece together her experiences from her fragmented words.
She was probably tricked by some Abyssal Demon.
And it had been three thousand years since the last expedition to the Abyssal realm.
Three thousand years ago.
She had been waiting for at least three thousand years.
This truly was a long wait.
Lolth looked at her crying softly and let out a gentle sigh.
"I’m sorry, but you have really mistaken someone."
"My name is Lolthlinda, and I just turned seventeen this year. I don’t know you."
"The child following me is named Dorothy Diana, and she is only fifteen."
To prove this, Lolth peeled off her disguise layer by layer, revealing her true essence.
The purest essence of "Lolthlinda."
Lolth rarely did this, as she was always in disguise.
Even in front of her mother, she hid her true strength and extraordinary presence.
It wasn’t that she didn’t trust people; it was just that Lolth believed doing this saved a lot of trouble.
Today, revealing herself so completely wasn’t just to "save trouble."
This was indeed a way to prove herself innocent.
But Lolth could no longer bear to deceive this crying creature.
Feeling Lolth’s presence, the witch holding the broom finally stopped crying.
She wiped her tears away and then looked at Lolth.
As she stepped forward, she reached out her pale hands covered in scars.
The cold fingertips touched Lolth’s cheek, and the resentment and tears in the young girl’s eyes gradually faded away like the retreating tide.
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry…"
The fingertips that had brushed against Lolth’s cheek quickly withdrew.
Like a timid goldfish bumping into the glass wall of a fish tank.
She murmured this, then wiped her tears, and her soul seemed to calm down a bit.
"I really mistook you for someone else, I truly made a mistake."
"But a person like me doesn’t make mistakes; you two… look too much alike."
The witch said this, rubbing her hands on her robe and reaching into her pocket.
Then she pulled out a piece of green hard candy.
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry, take this, please forgive me."
Although her soul had steadied, her mind still seemed a bit off.
She looked at Lolth with a sincere expression.
Lolth looked at this candy, likely from three thousand years ago, feeling a mix of amusement and exasperation.
But she still picked it up.
"It’s alright, getting hit by strangers without any reason is quite common in the main plane…"
Lolth shrugged and said.
In the early days, when she secretly came to the main plane and her disguise wasn’t perfect, she was often recognized as an Abyssal Demon or detected with the scent of the Abyss, which led to groups of Superoperators attacking her.
Thankfully, Lolth’s space magic was already masterful back then, so she could escape quickly.
That’s why her disguise is now so skilled and effective.
There are no geniuses in disguise, just practice.
Hearing Lolth’s reply, the red-haired Miss Witch chuckled shyly.
"Oh right, you are from the demon race… I should give you some candy with a more exciting flavor."
She said this and then seemed to remember something, adding,
"Ah—right, how is the demon race now… Why have you come back to the mainland? Someone said before that the demon race lost, but have you won again?"
Lolth looked at the witch, hesitating whether to tell her the truth, when the witch suddenly grabbed her sleeve.
"Ah, this is not a good place to talk, let’s go to my house!"
Saying this, she gently waved her broom, standing on tiptoes, and the broom’s head drew a half circle in the air, with glowing dust falling softly between the dry straw and twigs.
In just a moment, Lolth found herself inside a small cabin.
An old wooden cabin, a low wooden bed, a large iron cauldron for brewing Magic Potions that looked very witch-like, and a pile of various books and some boxes stacked in the corner.
"Sit, sit."
The red-haired Miss Witch warmly pointed to the bed, then took out a surprisingly new cup from a box next to the cauldron.
She pressed the cup into Lolth’s hand and then took a bottle of Magic Potion from the shelf on the wall. She filled the cup with dark green liquid and then took a big gulp straight from the bottle.
"Ugh—"
Miss Witch emitted a contented sound, leaned against the wall, and swung her fists. Then, Lolth sensed a chaotic aura of Star Spirit magic enveloping her.
She sniffed the dark green liquid in the cup, unable to name it, but Lolth could deduce its grade and effects.
A Level Seven Magic Potion, likely intended for psychic assaults.
The gas produced from shattering it and infusing it with magic could probably disorient even epic or transcendent beings.
Yet, the person before her was consuming it as if it were mere water.
Lolth observed her, abstaining from drinking, silently watching, then shifted her gaze to the wooden window by the shelf and the boundless swamp and mist beyond, and slowly began to speak.
"That… my companion…"
"I will ensure her safety," Miss Witch sprang up from the wall like a spring, stumbled into a cluster of bottles and jars. Before the Magic Potion could hit the ground, she swiftly turned and tapped the wooden floor with her broom, transforming it into a soft, almost flesh-like texture. Watching the bottles scatter across the floor, she sighed in relief, "That was close!"
Then, she dashed towards Lolth again and finally collapsed in front of her.
She held a bottle of Magic Potion aloft with one hand and braced herself against the floor with the other, not rushing to rise.
Instead, she lifted her bottom, the holes in her tattered black robe revealing her pale thighs, while her head ducked under the bed.
"Wait a moment—I’ll be right there!"
After some time, she pulled out a crystal from under the bed.
It was no ordinary crystal, but a highly precious… source crystal seed.
The irregular crystal shimmered with an odd light, nearly compatible with any type of magic. If placed in a potent magical environment, it might develop into a crystal mine in a century.
Just a tiny piece, the size of a fingernail, along with some non-magical materials, could craft a concealed device capable of expanding into a full-fledged magic artifact.
The red-haired witch had casually stashed it under the bed.
Then, she vigorously rubbed the crystal seed with her sleeve and infused it with a wisp of magic.
The crystal vibrated slightly, and then…
The red-haired witch whispered to it, using syllables even Lolth had never heard.
Composed mainly of vowels and voiced sounds, it resembled the threatening growl or low roar of an animal.
Soon, magic coalesced above the crystal seed, forming an image.
It depicted the location where Dorothy was.
The mercenaries encircled Dorothy, vigilantly scanning their surroundings.
But all was silent around; there was nothing at all.
The witch turned to Lolth with a triumphant expression.
"I’ve already informed everyone here not to harm that little girl… Hmm, what did you say her name was?"
Recalling this, the red-haired witch gently tapped her head and took another sip of her dark green Magic Potion.
"Dorothy… Dorothy Diana, right?"
