Chapter 329
by post_apiChapter 329: There Are Two in This Sky
The Supreme Emperor roared within the Abyss of the Buried Immortals, unable to spare any attention for Jin Zhihong and the others.
Zhang Yang immediately performed the Three Steps of Mountains and Rivers, transforming into a streak of light as he shot forward.
Yaoruoxian followed closely behind.
The moon-returning dragon and the cultivators from the Sunlit Sacred Land rushed over as well.
Even the master of Star Tiger Mountain, Tiger Howl Wind, swiftly followed like a shadow. His Small Boundless realm surpassed the strength of everyone present, allowing him to move effortlessly.
At that moment, no one had the mind to think of anything else.
The Abyss of the Buried Immortals lay over five hundred miles away.
Yet the Supreme Emperor’s roar could still be heard clearly.
When everyone arrived, they were met with a desolate sight.
The aura of death had shattered the remnants of the forbidden laws left by the hundred saints, reducing everything within a ten-mile radius to nothingness, even though the energy hadn’t spread much farther.
Flowers and grass had all withered.
Rocks had lost their luster.
The air was thick with the stench of death.
It seemed as if sunlight could no longer penetrate.
Even more terrifying was the constant roar coming from within the Abyss of the Buried Immortals. The sound was echoed by continuous booming, as if a great battle were unfolding horrifying sounds of slaughter ringing in everyone’s ears.
Worse still, the sounds pierced like swords and daggers. Even though many present activated their Holy Might and summoned their holy weapons, they still struggled to endure it.
“Power that transcends the path of a saint!”
Someone gasped in shock.
It was indeed unmistakable.
The path of a saint was formidable, but many of them were familiar with it. With their Holy Bodies and holy weapons, they could judge such matters accurately.
A battle between saints would never be like this, especially not within the Abyss of the Buried Immortals, a place where saints had once fallen. Fighting there would be courting death.
The terrifying battle raged on intensely.
No one dared to peek inside to see what was happening.
All they could witness were occasional surges of death energy escaping. Now and then, Soul-Eating Birds flew out, most of which were immediately annihilated by the terrifying force. Occasionally, a live one escaped, but it would be swiftly destroyed by the moon-returning dragon’s holy weapon, the Moon Blade leaving no lingering threats.
The fighting within the Abyss continued ceaselessly.
Zhang Yang involuntarily recalled various images.
He thought of the Great Terror in the Cabin.
He thought of the headless monk.
He thought of the immortal corpses pierced by the Dark Immortal Sword on Ghost Island.
A vague feeling stirred within him—that the Abyss of the Buried Immortals held a key he had yet to grasp. What was it?
The slaughter within the Abyss only intensified, and as the death energy surged higher, someone with sharp eyes noticed something unusual and exclaimed, “Look! Quickly, look! What’s on the wall of the Abyss of the Buried Immortals? It’s spreading out!”
Everyone turned to look.
Sure enough, beneath the churning death aura within the vast Abyss, a black line crawled upward from the depths. It resembled a black worm, but upon closer inspection, their expressions changed drastically.
It was a dark Forbidden Law Pattern.
More alarmingly, upon closer observation, it became clear that it was not a single line—but hundreds, even thousands, perhaps over ten thousand law patterns clustered together. Otherwise, how could it have been so clearly visible?
When the dark Forbidden Law Pattern reached the surface, it collided with the forbidden powers left behind by the hundred saints. Yet instead of resisting, some of that power made way, allowing the dark pattern to break through and sprawl outward.
In the blink of an eye, it spread across an area of two or three miles.
Zhang Yang watched the spreading dark Forbidden Law Pattern, a strong sense of familiarity creeping into his heart.
He recalled the Ghost Ship of the Buried Immortals passing through a black mountain, within which stood a black palace. He had charged into it, encountering the dark Forbidden Law Patterns that had emerged from Hellhounds.
How similar this was!
An uncontrollable killing intent surged in his heart.
He had never imagined that someone would willingly unleash the endless evil lurking beneath the surface. This went beyond causing suffering, it could very well bring about the end of the world.
For beneath the surface lay powers that surpassed even the path of a saint.
There was no Eternal Night below to crush the immortal path.
He gritted his teeth and shouted sharply, “Hell! Hound!”
His voice snapped everyone out of their daze.
Yaoruoxian murmured, “It really is the Forbidden Law Pattern of Hellhounds, emerging from beneath the surface!”
Panic rippled through the crowd.
Who didn’t fear what lay underground?
The dark Forbidden Law Pattern expanded rapidly.
Inside the Abyss of the Buried Immortals, the Supreme Emperor’s roars continued, each one provoking the pattern to spread further. The dark glow eroded life itself.
Zhang Yang declared coldly, “Old bastard Supreme Emperor! For your own selfish desires, you release Hellhounds from beneath the surface and plunge the world into chaos. You’re bringing disaster upon your Taixu Dynasty!”
He was truly enraged.
The Slaughter Thunder Saint Power surged through his body, and the Slaughter Sacred Thunder raged as he prepared to destroy the dark Forbidden Law Pattern.
The need to prevent the emergence of the Hellhounds stirred many to respond.
At the moon-returning dragon’s command, the warriors of the Cold Moon Dynasty readied themselves for battle.
Even the people of the Sunlit Sacred Land seemed eager to act.
Tiger Howl Wind summoned the power of the Small Boundless realm.
Yaoruoxian stood bathed in holy light. She had once collaborated with a Hellhound, but only one, and now as she approached the Nine Battles Tribulation, she had no desire to hear the words “slave, take action.”
Everyone was ready to strike.
As for Jin Zhihong, he had already fled with his people, unwilling to remain, afraid that Zhang Yang’s fury might be redirected at him.
Just as the collective strike was about to begin, a sudden rumbling echoed from the heavens above.
Unbeknownst to anyone, a mass of white clouds had gathered high in the sky, flashing with streaks of lightning.
“Is this meant to suppress the emergence from beneath the surface?” the moon-returning dragon exclaimed in shock.
Zhang Yang was equally puzzled. “White clouds… and that thunder—it feels like immortal thunder.”
He had experienced it before, in both the past and present lives of the Abyss of the Buried Immortals. The memory remained vivid in his mind, along with a faint impression of the immortal thunder.
“Immortal thunder? Immortal path power? But after the Eternal Night, isn’t the immortal path unable to manifest?” a young man from the Sunlit Sacred Land shouted.
The moon-returning dragon turned to him. “Son, do you remember the legend from before the Eternal Night?”
Zhang Yang raised an eyebrow. So this was the son of the Sunlit Sacred Land, the renowned genius Lu Hengkong from the Western Desert. He remembered seeing Prince Sparrow, the Horse Prince, the Mouse Prince, and others in the Eye of the Massive Stone through the Reincarnation Well—all of whom had once sworn allegiance to him.
“Are you referring to the legend about suppressing all evil races?” Lu Hengkong asked.
The moon-returning dragon nodded.
Zhang Yang remembered as well.
It was said that before the Eternal Night, during the Era of Competing Races, many evil races had faced early cleansing campaigns. In a desperate bid for survival, they had fled underground. Forced to resist, and amid the chaos between other races, a coalition had been formed with the immortals to Forever Seal the land.
This coalition nearly eradicated the evil races. However, remnants of an ancient netherworld were discovered beneath the earth, and those remnants survived. Ever since, they had continued to endure, always seeking a return to the surface.
Now, above the nine heavens, white clouds rolled like a gathering storm. Lightning darted like silver snakes and rumbled in waves. Fleeting shadows flickered in and out of view and there was more than one.
This once again seized everyone’s attention.
“Are those immortal shadows?”
“Is it the immortals who once sealed the evil races underground?”
“Do their powers still linger, untouched by the Eternal Night?”
Many voices echoed their confusion.
Zhang Yang, too, was puzzled until he noticed a look of sudden enlightenment on Yaoruoxian’s face. He asked, “What do you know?”
Not being addressed as “slave” brought some relief to Yaoruoxian. She replied calmly, “In this sky, there are two.”
