In the same year, in May of the year 5896 in the Xia calendar, there was a riot in the Qing River North District of the Green Cloud Republic. During the riot, merchants from the Jiabang Empire were brutally looted. The Jiabang Empire protested strongly and assembled a large army in the border area, while the Green Cloud Republic also mobilized troops in the border region. In October, the ambassador sent by Jiabang Empire to negotiate with the Green Cloud Republic was surrounded by angry Qingyun people on the street and was killed on the spot. The next day, Jiabang Empire declared war on the Green Cloud Republic.
