Here is another interesting question asked by a reader:
Why doesn't Muni let the current batch of examinees fight each other instead of pitting them against Replicas of previous examinees?
There are several reasons for this.
1) If they had to monitor and evaluate multiple people in a fast paced battle, they wouldn't be able to do it as well as if they had only one person to evaluate
2) They need to ensure that the exam is fair and approximately the same difficulty for everyone. And they can do so only if they know the battle power of participants of the battle.
If they let current examinees battle it out, one year there might be 5 overpowered people who would cause other people to have a lower score than they deserve, while those 5 overpowered people would also get a lower score because they are pitted against each other. And then another year, there might be a lack of good seedlings and a bunch of weak people fighting each other yet getting higher scores than they deserve because there are no strong people in the batch.
Even if examiners were omniscient and could accurately judge their battle ability, they wouldn't be able to justify deducting points or giving extra points even though the examinees beat everyone or failed to beat anyone. While they do have the power to adjust the scoring if they feel that by following the scoring guidelines the scoring wouldn't be accurate, however, if they adjust it by more than +-2 points, they need to have a strong justification behind it.
